Mikkel Michelsen is set to take a leading role for Eastbourne Eagles.

The rising Danish star will move into a heat-leader’s berth at Leicester on Saturday after securing a new average.

He remains in a second-string position as Eagles go to Swindon tonight.

Michelsen started 2014 on a bargain five-point assessed average but has now done enough away fixtures to be given a more realistic figure of 6.71.

New averages come into force from tomorrow and he will go at No.5 at Leicester with Cameron Woodward slipping to a second-string role at No.4.

Eagles are at full strength tonight as they chase a first away point of the season.

Woodward and Bjarne Pedersen have already top-scored as guest bookings at the fast 363-metre circuit and boss Trevor Geer will hope for more of the same in their own team’s colours.

Woodward guested for Coventry when they won a rain-curtailed fixture at Swindon three weeks ago and scored eight points from his three rides.

Pedersen was top man for Swindon that night with nine-paid-ten from three outings, including a second place when going for double points.

Geer said: “Most of our boys ride Swindon well. I believe this is somewhere we can points.

“Bjarne and Cam did well before and they will talk to their team mates.

“We need away points this season and Swindon and Leicester are two places I think we can get them.

“We have riders going well. They have all had good meetings since last Friday.

“Timo Lahti won a big meeting at Gustrow in Germany and then got 13 points in Poland.”

Eagles will be up against a Robins side giving a debut to Aussie racer Dakota North, who has been drafted in to replace misfiring Nicolai Klindt.

Simon Gustafsson, on loan from Eastbourne, is off to a solid start around his new track with an average of 6.67 including bonus points in his first three home fixtures.

Swindon reserve Steve Worrall will guest for Eastbourne at Leicester.

The Merseysider is required because Lewis Blackbird is riding for Peterborough.

Swindon: Kildemand, North, Batchelor, Gustafsson, Morris, Greenwood, S.Worrall.

Eagles: Pedersen, Lahti, Kylmakorpi, Michelsen, Woodward, Blackbird, Halsey.
