NATHAN Jones has urged Albion to land an early blow against his old club Yeovil tonight.

The Seagulls soon took charge in convincing wins at champions Leicester and at home to Charlton but Oscar Garcia's side have been slow to get going since then in successive stalemates at Huddersfield and against Blackpool at the Amex on Monday.

Albion No. 2 Jones said: “We look for fast starts. We realise the importance of getting the first goal at any level, especially Championship level, because it's so competitive and sides that get the first goal invariably do well in each and every game.

“We look for a fast start to get the crowd going, to get a real good atmosphere, to put people on the back foot, like a boxer.

“We want to land those first couple of punches. Sometimes it doesn't happen, sometimes it does. If I could guarantee it every game then I'd be the best in the world but we aim for that.”

Jones ended his playing career at relegation-doomed Yeovil after leaving Albion and also cut his managerial teeth with them.

“I went there for a certain reason,” said the Welshman. “It worked out fantastically well, exactly the way I wanted.

“When I left here I wanted to prolong my career at 32 and as it was I played until I was 39 and they gave me a start in management as the assistant there.

“I had seven fantastic years. If they have any added motivation that's up to them. Every side that comes here is motivated."
