GORDON Greer insists it will not be a failure if Albion miss out on the play-offs.

The Seagulls still have a strong chance of finishing sixth and can put the pressure back on Reading by beating Yeovil at the Amex tonight.

What ever happens in the last two games Greer agrees with head coach Oscar Garcia, who told The Argus on Wednesday it is amazing Albion are in the race.

The skipper said: “I think it is, considering where we were at the start of pre-season with no manager, with half a squad. To be where we are now with the teams we are competing alongside, who had good pre-seasons, had managers in place, and have got bigger budgets and bigger squads.

“I think that’s the main thing for us, we’ve had key players out at bad times, but there are no excuses. We are still amongst it. We should have won the game the other day (against Blackpool) and we will be giving it everything against Yeovil.”

Monday’s 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool has left Albion playing catch-up again, a point and a place outside the play-off zone, after finishing fourth under former boss Gus Poyet last season.

Greer, who makes his 150th league start for the club tonight, added: “I know a lot of people might think it’s a failure, considering where we came last year, but there was a lot of turmoil in the club pre-season with everything that happened with Gus and then we had the manager and then there was a transfer thing where we couldn’t sign players.

“In the whole of pre-season we were playing with a lot of the development squad and because of that you’ve seen the likes of Rohan Ince and Solly March break into the first team.

“There were a lot of things that happened pre-season but there are no excuses that we didn’t beat Blackpool the other day. It was a massive game for us and we gave it everything but it just wasn’t to be. We didn’t play well enough, so hopefully we can get three points tonight.”
