Sussex suffered their first defeat of the season as they were thrashed by an innings and 11 runs by Somerset at Hove.

Somerset began the final day needing just three more wickets to wrap up an emphatic victory and it took the visitors just 18 overs to finish the job.

Chris Jordan lasted less than three overs before edging a ball from Jamie Overton to James Hildreth at first slip having only added one to his overnight score of six.

Skipper Ed Joyce fell seven runs short of his fourth first class century of the season when he played on trying to cut a wide ball from Lewis Gregory.

James Anyon made ten before he pulled a short ball from Peter Trego straight to the man at midwicket.

Jon Lewis and Steve Magoffin got Sussex past the 200 mark before Gregory knocked Lewis’s middle stump out of the ground to pick up his ninth wicket of the match. Magoffin was unbeaten on 20 - the third highest score of the innings.
