Oscar won't change his style

The Argus: Oscar is playing for keeps Oscar is playing for keeps

Albion boss Oscar Garcia will not tamper with his football philosophy – regardless of whether his team is in the Championship or Premier League next season.

The Barcelona style, engrained in Oscar during his playing and coaching career at the Nou Camp, has come under scrutiny due to the relative failure of his old club in Spain and in the Champions League this season.

Critics are pointing to Chelsea’s win at Liverpool last weekend and Real Madrid’s crushing victory at Bayern Munich on Tuesday as evidence that having the ball counts for little.

Possession, as long as it is with an attacking purpose, will, however, remain Oscar’s mantra for how ever long he is in charge at Albion.

He made that clear during his press conference at the Amex yesterday ahead of today’s trip to Nottingham Forest which, combined with Reading’s result at home to Burnley, will determine whether his side still have a Premier League chance next term.

Oscar told The Argus: “You keep possession to have more chances to score, not only to keep possession. You have to keep possession in the opponent’s half and close to their goal to create chances.

“I think in the last five or six years the most successful teams have been like this – Spain, Barcelona. They haven’t had good results but it’s only one year and then you have to change?

“If other styles start to win four, five and six years in a row then we can speak but not with one result or one year.”

Not going to disagree with OG , but the barca way is there way, they have extremely skilful players capable of keeping the ball under pressing form the oposition.
The keep ball philosophy is under scrutiny , because instead of allowing tippy tappy, sides press the ball with 4-5 players .. If your not good enough technically your found out.. IE Arsenal against sides with good managers.
The majority of Europe tried to copy barca and it all looked good till someone realised simply chasing the ball down in twos and threes resulted in the hoof or a mistake .
A more direct way works, but pace is required .. The defensive holding player will need to reinvent themselves, Ince a perfect example... Not good enough as a midfield conventional player .

He is right but this season we have witnessed lots of possession but in our own half and not the opponents, which is where the play needs to be.Not being negative just telling as it is and I have been to all the home matches this season. Fingers crossed for today.

Hi guys.
Well today is the day, have to admit to being somewhat nervous about what is to unfold, I just hope we give a good account of ourselves.
I guess this forum will be a tad quiet today, what with you all glued to your TV 's.

I wonder if Tug has had a bet on today's match.
