Calderon knows all about two-leg ties

The Argus: Inigo Calderon Inigo Calderon

Inigo Calderon knows all about two-leg play-off and cup ties.

And he reckons it is a case of where there is life there is hope for Albion as they go to Derby.

Calderon started home and away when the Seagulls lost to Crystal Palace in the semi-finals last term.

He also appeared in SEVEN home-and-away ties – or 14 matches in all – during his time with Alicante in Spain.

Calderon said: “I’ve got quite a lot of experience of playing over two legs and the main thing is you have to be alive for the second leg.

“It’s just one goal. Maybe you are having a bad day but you can still nick a goal from a set-piece, a penalty, whatever.

“We are still in there. I know for a fact we will fight until the last second.”

Calderon was part of two aggregate wins and three defeats for Alicante in promotion play-offs between June 2005 and June 2007.

He shared in one aggregate win and one defeat in Copa del Rey ties in the same period.

Let's hope Caldi plays tomorrow rather than the unreliable Bruno, we will also be ok if Dunk starts, not worth risking Upson, if we need to replace him half way through the game it is a wasted substitute! Ince must also start, think we missed his physical presence Thursday, he will allow us to play a bit higher up the pitch imo. We also need pace and width up front, March and LuaLua had the derby defence on the back foot second half and that prevented them pushing forwards, thus nullifying their counter attack. Get an early goal and Derby will panic, I believe it's ours for the taking, can Derby beat us FOUR times in one season, law of averages says no and they will be thinking that.
1-3 and Albion to go to Wembley. UTA

Clear not what OG thought after the Yeovil game or why drop him??? Plz note Fulham are about to make 1.7 million offer for Cook at BMTH.When i asked the same scouts watching Cook and asked about Dunk all i got was a big smile and not a chance.

Couldn't care less what others want to offer for other teams players, Dunk when called upon this season has played well despite what certain others think, don't think he was dropped after the Yeovil game, it's called squad rotation, other teams do it and with two superb international level central defenders playing week in week out it's no surprise he has had little first team action, next year he will get his chance, and who knows, instead of a relegated prem club looking at a Bournemouth player, it might be an actual prem club looking at Dunk! Or he could be playing for the Albion in the premiership, who knows?

I'm not convinced that Calderon's defending is really good enough for the level we are now at but he certainly gives everything and we will need that from all our players at Derby. He's been booked in all 3 Championship play-offs we've played and that cost us very dearly in the infamous home match against Palace last season - so please don't get booked tomorrow Calde.

Calderon is a good league one player at best. His defending is well below championship. That fact is proved 100% corret by the fact the club has not had one bid from another club for the guy.Good players are always wanted by other clubs ie Bridcutt,Ulloa,TK,Mu
rray,and Barnes.

What pure Dunk PR rubbish yet again.Fulham are only going for Cook now because they know 100% already his a very good championship players. You are out of your mind if you really believe a prem-league team is going to sign Dunk lol haha.Your Mr,Dunk should be playing at the top of his game at his age and not still be behind 2 old men like Greer & Upson. Its the way Brighton are set upto play with their dire play most weeks that gives the defence such a good record you sad mug.Face it he was rubbish against Yeovil and was dropped Forest.Or are you now saying OG goes out his way not to pick his best team???Because you can't have it both ways. Also please say why Hull never made a bid after his 2 wonderful performances against them lol haha.Fulham have been watching Cook almost all season just like Palace had their guys watching Murray.Do you really believe these guys don't know about your super Mr,Dunk & JFC lol haha.

There are top scouts all over the young top players at Southampton.Everton have lads of just 18 & 20 playing out their skins in the prem-league.If Dunk & JFC really was great players the big guns are more like to make their move now anyway because they could get them for not half the price.Brighton sold Cook too BMTH for just 300k because at the time he was not playing reg championship football. Now Fulham are 100% sure of getting a great championship defender that they feel will take them back up.If for just one min they thought Dunk was a better player they would make a bid of about 2 or 3 million now just like clubs like Hull,Swansea,WBA,Sto

alace, and Sunderland.Clubs like this can't play with the big boys like Chelsea,Liverpool,an
d Man-citys so have scouts all over any young talent in the championship believe me.You live in a pure dream world about that boy of yours.

Players will come and go from any team, good or bad, and circumstances dictate what a team has to do at any given time, clubs might not want to pay silly wages and players leave for that reason, Murray and Barnes prime examples, you go on about Dunk not being any good, to a certain extent he is unproven but when called upon has performed ok, getting TK out of the s*** a couple of games ago comes to mind, does that mistake make TK a crap keeper in your eyes? Fulham are only going after the likes of Cook because they will need to offload players on prem wages and see him as a cheap replacement, much like Ward playing for us and not Wolves. We could have kept the likes of Zamora, Noone, Murray, Barnes, Barry etc and we would all love to see the likes of Bale, Rooney, Ronaldo etc on the books but why bankrupt the club in the process, Man city are about to get a £50m fine and a ban on transfers for over spending for that very reason. Look at Pompey, up the creek without a paddle, Blackpool heading in the same direction amongst others, yet good old Albion have got it spot on, pay what you can afford and with good management you will succeed, fighting again for the second year running in the playoffs while others settle for mid table mediocrity! If Dunk turns out to be no good so be it, but if he proves himself when playing regularly, no doubt there will be teams looking at him, it's what happens so get use to it and move on.
