Inigo Calderon would love to extend his stay at Albion

Inigo Calderon, left, has set his sights on a new deal with Albion – and another promotion push.

The long-serving right-back is among several Seagulls players out of contract this summer.

He admits he would love to extend his stay with the club who brought him to English football in January 2010.

And he hopes other members of the team who finished sixth are offered the chance to stay at the Amex.

Calderon said: “It is up the club now. It has been a difficult season for me as well.

“I haven’t played as many games as I would want.

“But I am really happy at this club. I feel part of it.

“I have been here for four-and-a-half years now.

“We will see what happens with a lot of players but hopefully a lot of us are still here next year.”

Great news if he stays. Epitomises the passion for the club some of our other players appaently lack. Plus a great ambassador for Albion in the Community.

Bang on SJ, love this guy, keeps our Spanish connection also, would like him involved with the Albion for many years to come on and off the pitch.

I'd like to see Calde kept on as player/assistant manager personally.

I know the new guy will wants his own team with him but I think that there should always be room for a guy like Inigo.

Maybe a player/coaching role working alongside whoever is anointed, providing a bridge between past and future? Would love to see Caldo with us for many years into the future in either a coaching or ambassadorial role. Great guy, great attitude and still currently (IMHO) a very good full back with desire and determination to push forward.

I do love Calderon , his attitude is something to appreciate over the local kids who brought shame on the club in various guises..
I would give him a year deal on the condition he takes his badges and moves into youth coaching.. This guy is a very intelligent , honest individual, .. He would have been ideal for OG in a year rather than jones who lost the plot with silly comments, " obika is lethal" " and Hoskins have a major part to play in the run in and play offs" sorry jones taxi for you!

I think we all agree Inigo should be given the opportunity to stay at the club basically as long as he likes. Great person to have around both on and off the pitch.

Can anyone clarify who all the players out of contract are?

Kuszczak, Bruno, Upson, Calderon, Lopez, Rodriguez.....who else? Obviously, Andrews and Ward go back to their clubs too.

Agree with above posts---at least someone wants to stay at the Club!! Yes have said for a long time if you cut his arm he would have BHA in his veins. Great ambassador, would be great to work with the young ones, not only in a footballing role but on a ´how to behave yourself´role. One person who CAN make an influence and keep players together.
I think the Club should IMMEDIATELY be looking for a top class goalie--as well as a manager--as I think it is pretty obvious Tomaz will not be with us next season. Stability and calmness needs to be restored asap and I will be very disappointed if Tony B does not come out and make an HONEST statement on the current state of play with the Club---NOT some wishy washy standard stuff like--´He had his reasons for going and we wish him well ´¨ One manager going and all kept quiet but now two, as the paying fans have a right to be told the TRUTH--and THEN move on. The Board needs to hold its hands up and say YES we got some things wrong---that way they will gain more respect. Lets SEE!!!!

Yes, I well remember the hollow words from Nathan Jones regarding Hoskins. As for Calde, if he is shown the door, then there will be dignified protests at the Amex before the season starts. Count me in!

Well the 'consensus' is that Calde should be given a new deal. What utter tosh ! Didn't any of you notice that Derby winger Ward roasted him alive on Sunday! Both he and Bruno should be shown the door as they are total liabilities defensively. Big Tom should join them -in his last few games he has been dreadful - a bag of nerves in fact. Time to get rid of the old guard and have a total rebuild.

Don't agree re Calde, all of our team was roasted by Derby; Calde however did not let his head drop.
Agree that Kuz has been hit and miss the laast few games but we would be 19th in the league if you take some of his qualty saves out of our results.

Calderon should defiantly be given a new deal. The work he puts in for the club behind the scenes is second to none and he is a real benefit to the community as a whole. He epitomises everything that is Albion and I truly feel it would be silly to let a man of his statue leave the club.
Maybe one day he will be sitting in our dugout learning the trade, we could do a lot worse.

I have writing in connection with MBTS's comment (which I quoted) about Nathan Jones saying Obika was 'lethal'. I was merely expanding upon that. So yes there was a 'prior reference'. Will probably get a record thumbs down for this but here goes!
Caldi is a top bloke and gives 100% every time and i would like to see him in a coaching role, BUT and its a big BUT, he is not quite good enough to help get us promotted imho, we have an aging squad that has just about reached its sell by date, this along with the need for a new manager leaves Albion in a precarious position, a proven manager wont come in on the wages we pay and will not pay lip service to those telling him what to do either.
Added to this, if we dont get someone in soon to steady the ship the vultures will pick off our few remaining players and leave us with a skeleton squad and little money to invest in new young players required.
If we had had the finances to rectify this problem the likes of Poyet and now Oscar would not have left and i dont see anything changing over the summer, we will end up creating a squad out of other teams cast off's with the likes of Agustien etc the only players available, i hope its all wrong and we invest to progress but dont see it happening!

A few players, plus Jones should be moved on, but not Inigo, he has value to the club, not just as a player.
Inspirational, p rofessional and an excellent role model for young players and for players who come to the club from overseas.

Calde wants a new contract, and I think he might get one but his role might again be restricted to one of back up. Calde also states that he hopes others reaching the end of their contracts also stay, this is where he and I don't agree.

I would like to think that we would buy Ward, so if Calde has him in mind then we agree. Upson, Greer and Bruno, good yes, quick and good no, quick, good and a threat at the other end of the park, no. Lots of corners and set pieces but very few goals from those three.
If he is thinking of Andrews being bought, maybe, but again for me he is back up. Perhaps he has Orlandi and Buckley in mind, and I can see why he would, but for me they are just too injury prone, when the treatment room has a better lineup than our bench, things need to change. I would bid a fond farewell to both. Lopez, sory mate it's time to go, Kaz accept the role of impact sub and make it your own, when starting decent defenders suss you out all too easily, if that doesn't work for you, then bye bye.
Rodriguez, you had your chance to impress but didn't, you can share a taxi with Lopez. Ince, Solly and JFC, you are safe but JFC, you need to show improvement in your game, but at your age you should be able to, look at you again this time next year.
