Ince thanks old boss

The Argus: Rohan Ince Rohan Ince

Albion prospect Rohan Ince has thanked departed boss Oscar Garcia for igniting his career.

Ince has become a first team regular and won the young player of the season award after Oscar converted him from a centre-half into a central midfielder.

The 21-year-old former Chelsea trainee revealed to The Argus: “It was literally a brief moment. I had a match for the DS (development squad), a friendly match in pre-season, and I was playing centre-back.

“I was kind of driving out into midfield quite a bit. I was training with the first team next session in an 11-a-side match. Oscar just walked by, tapped me on the shoulder and said ‘You’re playing midfield today’.

“I started off as a midfielder at Chelsea up until I was 16, then I was changed to a centre-back because of my height and physical attributes.

“I went back and forwards between midfield and defence in my Chelsea career but I came here as a centre-back because that’s where I thought my career would be best.

“Obviously Oscar didn’t believe that and I am happy he didn’t believe it either, because midfield is my preferred position.

“He has given me the opportunity to play first team football, in my preferred role as well, so I couldn’t be more grateful.

“If you had told me last year I would achieve what I have I’d say you were lying. It’s a dream come true.”

Jake Forster-Caskey and Solly March, who also made first team breakthroughs under Oscar, are with Gareth Southgate’s England under-21s in France for the Toulon tournament. They have a minimum of four matches, starting tonight against Qatar.

Inspired decision or lucky guess, who knows, great that Oscar saw the player within the player. Shame it didn,t work out here for him here as could have been a quiet genius shame but we move on and with Incy, thanks Oscar.SEAGULLS

No luck involved, Oscar has an eye for talented youngsters, that's what he did for Barca. It's a shame he won't have an input into our new academy.
I see Hughton's odds are shortening, not for me, still hoping for Sherwood or Clement.

Really surprised argus not running with this; lets hope they don't offer 5 million cos even with a clause in his contract then if the suits are trully looking to save money then they make take an offer less than 7 million. Good luck to Leo in whatever happens but I think we do need that strong forward for players to run off so really hope he stays but it will be hard to turn down even 5 million and hard for Leo to turn down pl football.
A few thumbs down for me I think but just thinking of what we got for bridders and accepted.

Morning Albion in staffs,
We obviously do not want to lose Leo but we all no if someone comes in with five million plus we no he would probably go, so yer I would take Chris Woods part off the deal, look when Liam left we should off gone for Wickham in part exchange in the end he kept them up virtually on his own with his goals,

We don't actually know what we got for Bridcutt since it was 'undisclosed'.

Chris Hughton is now down to 2 to 1 on Skybet for the manager's job. I think he's a decent manager, Certainly at Championship level.

I still think it a shame Oscar has gone. He clearly has the eye to spot young football talent and achieved a lot in the short time he was with us. Would Gus have given Rohan the chance like Oscar did?
Anyway it's all water under the bridge and we move on.
Still think Steve Clarke for me although Chris Hughton would do a good job I'm sure. Still expecting the unexpected though! UTA

If he is good enough. Christian Walton. No first team experiance but very talented. Will save us alot of money, which can be spent elsewhere. No first team players should be sold until the new manager sanctions it. A fit Ulloa, getting quality service is good enough to fire us to promotion. Never sell players you cannot replace!!

Good to see that BHA have rejected this reported £3 Million bid from Leicester. Not sure why they think we would accept £3 million when (a) we apparently turned down £5 million in January (Sunderland ?) and (b) value him at £7 million according to various reports.
I agree Alfie T that we are likely to see more interest over the next few weeks. I would like to think that no decision on selling Ulloa is taken until our new Manager is on board. I noticed last week that Ulloa said he still had another 3 years left on his contract so there is no reason for us to accept any figure below our valuation even if the club were to accept an offer. The cost of replacing him is likely to be substantial and more than wee paid for CMS.
Lets hope that BHA continue to withstand ridiculously lower offers for Ulloa or any other player. UTA.
