Sky Bet have suspended the betting on Sami Hyypia becoming the next Albion manager.

Albion have made no comment over the reports that Hyypia is set to take the job.

The former Liverpool and Finland defender has been out of work since leaving Bayer Leverkusen two months ago after two years in charge.

On Wednesday Mark Lawrenson told The Argus Hyypia would be “a great choice” for the role vacated by Oscar Garcia at the end of the season.

Assuming the bookies have it right (they usually do) it's be good to get the weeks of uncertainty out of the way and start to see how the squad is going to shape up for next season. It'll be good to get some real "news" instead of gossip and rumour which is all we've had for a while now. Re the appointment, can't say I'm overwhelmed, but then I couldn't really get too excited about most of the candidates. So, come on Sami, let's see what you're made of.

A great move for Hyypia himself but not a convincing appointment for our club as far as I am concerned - he appears to have struggled at BL once his coaching side-kick had moved sideways and I now have no doubt it was total BS when we were told of the fantastic list of applicants within 24 hours of OG announcing he will be moving on! We have gone for a cheap option which combined with a depleted squad and a lack further real investment due to FFP will see us struggle to finish in the top ten!!
Let's hope this can be rammed up my jacksie come next May!!

Then i guess the obvious thing to do ( if true) is for SH to bring his coaching side kick with him...........
I remember reading comments on here the day Poyet was appointed - there were some people who were 'not convinced' ( these were the exact words used by one guy) - just goes to prove how wrong you can be. So how about this for a thought, why don't we give the guy 6 months to settle in, and then start complaining ? Or is 6 months too long for some people ?

Pretty much my view too. Regardless of who the board opt to recruit into the coach/manager role, we need to crack on and get ready for the new season. There's a shed-load to be getting on with and the best thing we can all do is get behind the new guy and let him see why we're the best supported club outside the Premiership.

Bring it on!

Okay bit out of date. Helsinki was the suicide capital of the world but since winning the Eurovision Song contest and hosting the following year, suicide rates have thankfully declined.
Apparently the entire population of Finland can comfortably fit inside the Amex. Vodka is the preferred on cornflakes bur reindeer blood for the youngsters. Listening to heavy metal is obligatory and NEVER accept a challenge to a drinking contest from a Finn; several Stag groups have disappeared in Talinn having accepted from marauding groups of Finns from across the sea. Ian Holloway, Brian McDermott, Nigel Adkins, Sam Allardyce, Neil Warnock, Paul Lambert, Roberto Di Matteo, Mick McCarthy, Alex McGleish, Owen Coyle,.. just to name a few of the managers who have won promotion to the Championship in the last few seasons.

I'd rather have someone who took a team to 4th in the top division of Germany last season than any of them.

Tony Bloom is a very smart man and his record of appointing managers is outstanding. I can see no reason to doubt this decision whatsoever. Exciting season ahead.
