Garry Wilson has expressed his delight after captain Jack Walder pledged himself to the club for next season.

Walder has followed a number of other players by agreeing to stay with the Rooks for the 2014-15 campaign.

Now Wilson is turning his attention to finding a goalscorer to partner Luke Blewden.

Combative midfielder Walder impressed manager Wilson last season.

He was one of the few players already at the club to remain when Wilson took over a year ago and enjoyed an excellent campaign which was ended early by an ankle injury.

Lewes won just four of the 20 games Walder missed in all competitions last season.

Wilson said: “Jack has agreed to stay with us. He still has to do a bit of rehab with the injury but we are very happy to have him back.

“He is our leader on the park.

“I knew of him before I joined Lewes and I had seen him play but we were surprised with how good he was.”

Lewes have made five new signings this summer in securing a permanent move for loan striker Blewden from Tonbridge Angels as well as snapping up defenders Gary Elphick, Ollie Rowe and Sam Cole plus bringing in midfielder Byron Napper from Horsham.

Bringing in another forward is Wilson’s priority now.

He said: “We are pleased with the way things are shaping up but we are still looking for a couple of pieces in the jigsaw, which we are working on.

“We want to enter the season with another player who will hit a minimum of 20 goals.

“We have Luke from the start of the season, we have Jack who can score goals and we have Gary Elphick and Ollie Rowe who can get goals from set-pieces. Nicky Wheeler can score more next season and Nathan Crabb is capable of getting his figure up.

“But I would like another forward who can get 20 goals. If it is not one, then it may be two players but by August 9 that is what we want.”
