Why Case reckons new boss can be a real asset for Albion

The Argus: Sami Hyypia is respected by the biggest names in the game Sami Hyypia is respected by the biggest names in the game

Jimmy Case has urged Albion to tap into their new boss's standing in English football.

Former Liverpool star Sami Hyypia has taken over as manager on a three-year contract.

Case, who starred for both Liverpool and the Seagulls as a player, reckons Hyypia's arrival will impress people around the game.

He told The Argus last night: “I know a lot of lads respect Sami very highly.

“He’s a top bloke. I’ve chatted to him doing radio work and he’s one who always gave 100% as a player. He is on the ball.

“Most importantly, he has a strong connection with the top level of the game.

“He has great international contacts and that is vital these days.

“If you’ve got friends within the game at Liverpool and in the Bundesliga and if you are that well known it will help you attract players.”

Case added: “Everyone in the game likes him. That’s a bonus.

“If people don’t like you, you are not going to get much support or help when it comes to things like loan deals.

“You need friends within the game. I think this will be a good move for him and hopefully for Brighton.”

Thought you meant Case at first which seemed a tad harsh......when I saw the headline I did wonder how he would be in much of a position to have a credible view. Having read his comments, they seem really informed and some interesting points.

Not posted on here for a few days but think the club has made a really positive appointment. Ticks an awful lot of boxes and hope he will bring a real freshness to the role.

It never ceases to amaze me just how many identity's on person can take the trouble to set up, or even why they would bother really.
you really is a sick little puppy when you is off your medication isn't you (there I've fed your ego) I would really - really not like to live next door to your cave.
If you can't make constructive comments (like JC has) or put your negative points over in a sensible and considered fashion like other posters do then can i suggest you go back to the stone you came out from under (more ego feeding).
The above idiot aside, JC makes sound sense SH's contacts could prove invaluable next season but all we can do is wait and see, I'm really looking forward to another decent season.

Jimmy Case, who is both a Liverpool and Albion legend, makes a lot of sense here. I'm feeling more and more positive about Sami and what he can bring to the Amex. Tony Bloom has done a good job, IMHO, but only time will tell.
I'm just a bit concerned that Jimmy might be expecting a phone call to turn up with his boots. Much as I love Jimmy that might be a step too far. UTA

Has anyone else here noticed that Freeloaders always reincarnates on Saturdays now? His small brain seems to have worked out that he gets 48 hours of gratuitous insults in before the Argus editorial staff come back in on Monday and remove him again.

No surprise that Hyypia's appointment doesn't get his unqualified approval! I assume that as he hates the 'suits', half the team and the new manager too now, he will give the benefit of his immense knowledge and network of football contacts to Palarse as he seems to have no reason for hanging around here.

I wish I could say it was nice exchanging views with you Freeloaders, but of course it never was. I hope your new friends are more understanding of your "special" needs.

Although you have not put this very well, I do agree that in this country we tend to go for oversea's managers too Often and not just football manager but also players, checkout girls or boy, sale assistants, waitresses, cleaners, etc. I think we are all going to out of jobs. Assuming you are worried about the England team as in another thread, it won't make any difference to the England national team.

During the 70s and 80s, most English league sides had an English manager and English players. How did the English national do? Not well!

Having to compete against the best makes managers/players better so, if you're concerned about the English national team, having the strongest possible league with the best possible players and managers should be what you want. That way the English players and managers will improve and the England team will be stronger.

No point, it is beyond the comprehension of the average fan why another would want the new manager to fail rather than succeed, based on him not being English. Because you would have to be racist or mental to think like that.

Whilst Oscar, was no doubt, a great player, he would not have been on the radar of many players in this country, Hyppia on the other hand, at only 40, would have been watched by many youngsters week in week out on Match of the Day and Sky. IMO, that alone gives him the edge over Oscar for attracting English and foreign players to the club.
I think he's a good choice, TB always manages to go a bit left field, which is probably why he makes money(and lots of it!)
Living and working in Liverpool, I know a few scousers that were hoping he would go to Melwood as the reds defensive coach, he is held in high esteem here!

So the deal is done and now the hard part begins.
Hyypia tells us that he was impressed with Bloom's ambition, I guess Sam would have asked how Bloom intends to finance those ambitions. The budget must have been discussed, along with how Bloom sees our seson ending, one can only summise that Bloom had answers that made sense.

Jones taking over as head coach makes sense, Hyypia can bring in his own assistant whilst also tapping in to what Jones knows about the players, Hyypia knows zip about our squad but faces the task of making it stronger.

To deliberately misquote a famous saying, it is better to stay silent and be thought a low-life piece of pond life than to speak and remove all doubt!

Hi Tug, a new era begins, so many unknowns and I would guess a few suprises are in store.
Hyypia just might turn out to be the perfect fit, way too early to know, but we will get a few hints as to his thinking when we see the first of his signings.
The most important factor about our two previous managers is that neither of them did harm, we didn't slump in the table, both had us in with a chance of promotion, and I don't see Hyypia doing harm either, I doubt he will lose his job come Christmas. I think Bloom places a lot of value on a new managers ability to sustain rather than a new guy wanting wholesale changes, Hyypia is very much a mixture of Poyet and Garcia.

UTA!!
If you're referring to afterovid I don't think this is freeloader incarnated.... No brain dead mugs, no freeloaders, no JFC or LD and a space after a full stop.

Let's see
I agree. This is definitely a different specimen and an even more unpleasant one at that.

We have more chance of getting Ken Dodd.
Stop winding everyone up!
Why shouldn't we think a bit bigger? You don't know unless you ask! And now we have the perfect contact in place. Dare to dream!
Agreed, there's nothing wrong in daring to dream.
But's let's be realistic shall we.
You'll be suggesting Steven Gerrard and Louis Suarez next.

About a year ago I suggested that a young Liverpool lad, Adorjan, might be a good signing, he has now finished a season long loan period abroad. His loan season might not have been all he wanted but I still think he could be good for us, maybe HYypia will too.
