Steve Magoffin believes he is in the best form of his life after producing another stunning performance against Somerset.

The Australian seamer followed up his career best figures of 8-20 against Somerset at Horsham last season by taking 6-60 at Taunton yesterday.

Magoffin blew away the top order and at one stage had figures of 5-13 before Somerset fought back from 39-5 as the 34-year-old tired to make 289.

Magoffin said: “The past 12 to 18 months is definitely the best I have ever bowled.

“It is the most relaxed I have been about my bowling and I think I know my game as well as I ever have at any stage.

“Going back a number of years I probably had distractions of trying to push for higher honours which got in the way at different times but I don’t have to worry about that any more. “I am just going out and trying to bowl the best I can and stick to my strengths as best I can. Hopefully I can keep doing it for a few more years yet.”

Sussex resume on 26-0 today, 49 runs behind Somerset.

Magoffin added: “We are behind at the moment so we need to break that down and get ourselves in front and then see what the position is. “The ball did nip around a lot early but when the ball gets soft it does flatten out quite a lot. We are confident if we bat long today we can eliminate the runs we are behind and push on to a big lead.”
