Albion's released players could be thrown a lifeline by new boss Sami Hyypia.

Regular No. 1 Tomasz Kuszczak and Spanish midfielder Andrea Orlandi were among six players told by the club last month they were unlikely to be offered new deals.

But it will be up to Hyypia to rubber-stamp the decisions made before he was appointed.

Chief executive Paul Barber said: "If those players haven't received contracts elsewhere and the manager that comes in wants to keep them then of course that is an entirely open book as far as we are concerned."

Barber has also told supporters ahead of Hyypia's official unveiling this morning that Albion do not have to sell star striker Leo Ulloa or anyone else.

They have rejected a hat-trick of bids from Premier League newcomers Leicester for the Argentinian target man.

Barber said: "We're not in a position where we have to sell anyone. We're in a position where we want to progress, to mount another challenge for getting to the Premier League, and that requires assembling a very good squad of players. That's exactly what we'll do."
