Sami Hyypia was set for more talks on player recruitment today as he pieces together his Albion squad.

The new Seagulls manager said he was looking forward to talking with head of football operations David Burke after a press conference this morning.

Hyypia met the media at Albion’s impressive new training base at Lancing.

He admitted he was keen to get his playing staff together as quickly as possible.

And he welcomed the chance to have a bigger say on signings than he was permitted at his previous club Bayer Leverkusen.

Hyypia said: “I’ve seen a few games last season. I need to sit down with David Burke and talk wth him about the squad.

“We have to be quick to get all the players in before training starts.

“In Germany I didn't have a lot to say about the signings, the club mostly did them.

“I am very pleased that my opinion will be heard here.”

Hyypia and Burke have been in regular contact since the Finn was appointed manager last Friday.

The new boss admitted he was impressed by his surroundings.

He added: “The ambition of the club attracted me. When I saw the training ground and the stadium I knew they were serious.

"That's one reason I am sitting here at the moment.

“Hopefully I can take club forward in next three years.

“Where we finish, I don't know, hopefully we go forward. What I've done before doesn't matter.

"What counts is what I do after this moment."

Hyypia said he was confident of building on Albion’s two play-off seasons.

He added: “I'm always confident. Confidence is no bad thing but we need to be realistic.

“The club has had a few good campaigns in the last few years but my job is to make it better.

“Hopefully the progress will continue and I will be a happy man if I can take the club forward.”
