Sussex made an encouraging start with the bat on the opening day of their County Championship clash with Yorkshire at Arundel.
After skipper Ed Joyce won the toss and elected to bat first despite overcast conditions Sussex reached lunch on 104-1.
Chris Nash was the only wicket to fall when he flashed at a wide ball from Steven Patterson and was caught behind for 28.
Luke Wells, who passed a late fitness test on a side injury to be included in the side, has looked solid and reached lunch unbeaten on 32 from 92 balls.
Rory Hamilton-Brown has been more aggressive and hit Azeem Rafiq for a six on his way to 41 from 63 balls. Together the pair have added 56 for the second wicket.
James Tredwell is also making his debut in the game after joining on loan from Kent while Lewis Hatchett was is included for the first time in the Championship this season.
