Sami Hyypia has put a goalkeeper and centre-back at the top of his Albion wanted list.

But the Seagulls manager also admits his new team must solve their goalscoring “problem”.

Hyypia has told media in Finland he has spoken to his new club about signing “six or seven players” with a goalkeeper and a replacement for Matt Upson the most immediate needs.

He is keen for the club to continue their efforts to bring Wolves left-back Stephen Ward back to the Amex after a successful loan stint last year and said he is delighted to have Gordon Greer under contract.

He again underlined the importance of keeping striker Leo Ulloa on board, despite offers from Premier League new boys Leicester.

Albion netted just 55 times in the Championship last season, a tally bettered by 17 of their rivals.

Hyypia said: “Last season goalscoring was a problem and that is something that needs to be looked at.

“The club has rejected a few offers for him (Ulloa). I need to talk to him. Hopefully he will stay.”

Hyypia expects right-backs Bruno and Inigo Calderon to agree new deals and added: “With them we have agreed about extension I believe.

“We are trying to get Stephen Ward back.”

Fans will learn this morning whether Hyypia will be the first Albion manager since Steve Coppell almost 12 years ago to kick off his tenure with a home match.

Football League fixtures are released at 9am and complete lists for Albion and Crawley will immediately be available online at our website theargus.co.uk.

The Seagulls are at home to League Two side Cheltenham Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup (week starting August 11).
