Jonny Bairstow made a century to put Yorkshire in a strong position at tea on the third day of their County Championship clash with Sussex at Arundel Castle.

Bairstow resumed after lunch on 69 and moved to his 11th first class ton from 195 balls as Yorkshire began to build a first innings lead.

The England wicketkeeper has so far put on 115 with Tim Bresnan – who is 57 not out – to take Yorkshire to 382-5 at tea – leading by 66.

Sussex’s bowlers have fought hard to restrict Yorkshire but the closest they came to a wicket after lunch was a run out appeal when Bairstow was in the 90s.
