Sussex lost just one wicket before lunch as they battled to secure a draw on the final day against Yorkshire at Arundel Castle.
Chris Nash had made 53 when he was caught at slip by Adam Lyth pushing forward to a delivery from Azeem Rafiq.
The opener had earlier been dropped on 48 at short leg off the same bowler before bringing up his half century off 99 balls.
Yorkshire needed early wickets to keep alive their hopes of victory and will be rueing a missed chance just before the lunch interval.
Luke Wells was on 19 when he was put down by Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps off the bowling of Rafiq.
Wells (26no) and Rory Hamilton-Brown (16no) went on to take Sussex to 102-1 at the end of the morning session, reducing their deficit to 52.
