Crawley are considering whether to make a second bid for former Albion winger Dean Cox.

Reds have already had one offer knocked back by Leyton Orient for the 26-year-old but have money to spend following the sales of Kyle McFadzean and Andy Drury.

Boss John Gregory is keen to bring in Cox after he scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists to help Orient reach the play-off final last season.

A Championship club is also understood to be interested in the Seagulls youth product who is in the final year of his contract at Brisbane Road but the fact Cox still lives in Haywards Heath could work in Crawley’s favour.

Sussex-born Cox made 179 appearances for Albion, scoring 22 goals, before joining Orient four years ago and also had loan spells at Eastbourne Borough and Bognor.

Orient are determined to hold on to their most creative player as they attempt to mount another promotion challenge this season after losing 3-2 to Rotherham at Wembley in May in a match in which Cox scored.

But with Cox unlikely to sign a new contract as he looks for a new challenge Orient may be forced to cash-in on the former Oathall Community College pupil if Reds come back with an improved bid.

Crawley have brought in around £350,000 from the sale of McFadzean and Drury in the last two weeks with chief executive Michael Dunford insisting that money will all be spent on the playing budget.
