Sami Hyypia declared a “very good” day after launching his reign as Albion manager with a 5-0 win at Lewes.

The new Seagulls boss only started working with the players last Monday but is pleased with the progress they have made in his first week at the helm.

Youngster Shamir Fenelon led the way with a brace while Inigo Calderon, Kazenga LuaLua with a cracker and Craig Mackail-Smith also found the net.

Hyypia said: “I take the pre-season games only as a preparation for the season.

“We have trained only one week. I saw things we have practised on the training pitch and I was happy with that.

“We have a lot to analyse as well and a lot of things we can do better.

“But as a first game it was very good, we scored a few goals and that is great. It is great to come somewhere local and great to see many people have the interest to come and see the game.

“I was very pleased with the young players and very pleased with the attitude of the squad. It is not always easy to concentrate and to have the right attitude for these games but we kept the right tempo all through the game and that was one of the goals.”

Albion now head to Spain where they will play games against Real Betis and Partick Thistle.
