Sami Hyypia insists he is not in a hurry to bring in a No.2.

The new Seagulls boss has even hinted he may not appoint a new assistant at all.

Former Liverpool colleague Sammy Lee initially accepted an invitation to be Hyypia’s No.2 before changing his mind and joining Southampton.

Nathan Jones was assistant head coach to previous manager Oscar Garcia before taking on the role of first team coach to Hyypia.

The Welshman was alongside the new manager in the technical area at Lewes on Saturday as Albion launched their pre-season with a 5-0 win.

The preparations continue in Spain, where Albion fly to today ahead of games against Partick Thistle on Saturday and Real Betis next Thursday.

Hyypia is happy with what he has seen so far of Jones and will hold fire before deciding whether he needs extra support.

He said: “I’m looking into the situation and seeing what is the right thing to do. I’m not desperate to bring anybody at the moment.

“Nathan has done a good job and I think I can build a good relationship with Nathan as a partnership. We will see if we need anyone.

“That will be a decision I will need to think hard about. I won’t bring somebody for the sake of it.”
