Craig Mackail-Smith has told new Albion boss Sami Hyypia he will be his anywhere man.

The performance of Mackail-Smith was one of the highlights of the Seagulls’ opening pre-season friendly win at Lewes last Saturday.

The Scotland striker scored within a minute of being introduced at half-time and also produced a number of nice touches.

Mackail-Smith made seven substitute appearances at the back end of last season after being ruled out for more than a year with a ruptured Achilles.

He is still easing his way back to full fitness but has told Hyypia he wants to be in the team for the opening Championship game of the season at home to Sheffield Wednesday on August 9.

And he does not mind where he plays in the forward line, as long as he can contribute.

That will be music to Hyypia’s ears, particularly with continued speculation about the future of Leo Ulloa.

Mackail-Smith told The Argus: “The way we are going to play (under Hyypia) is going to suit me.

“I can play off the front man, I can play with the front man, I can play as the front man.

“It gives the gaffer lots of options and he has great options in the young players and Leo to change the team around and try things on the way to the beginning of the season.

“My job is to enjoy pre-season, work hard, be fit and hopefully push myself into a starting place come August.”

Albion begin selling tickets today for their only home friendly of pre-season, at home to Southampton on Thursday, July 31 (7.45pm).

They are priced at £14 for adults with under-16s paying £6 and senior citizens £10. Tickets can be booked by calling 0844 327 1901.
