Whitehawk's rebuilding has continued with the capture of two players who featured in last season’s Conference south play-off final.

Manager Steven King has followed the signing of Sergio Torres by swooping for Ebbsfleet United defenders Paul Lorraine and Osei Sankofa.

Lorraine captained an Ebbsfleet side who lost to Dover Athletic in the May showdown for a place in Conference premier.

Sankofa, a substitute in that game, is a former England under-20 international who played in the Premier League for Charlton.

He made his debut for the Addicks in a 4-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2003 when David Beckham was among the scorers for the home side.

Now 29, Sankofa went on to make a total of 19 first-team appearances for Charlton before spells at Bristol City, Brentford and Southend.

He joined Farnborough – then managed by King – in the summer of 2010 and spent time at Boreham Wood and Eastleigh before joining Ebbsfleet a year ago.

Lorraine, 30, played for Woking and AFC Wimbledon before joining Ebbsfleet in 2010. He initially signed for Dartford at the end of the season.

However, the Darts’ reprieve from relegation placed them back in Conference premier and forced youth worker Lorraine to rethink about the move, which is when King moved in with an offer.

The Whitehawk boss said: “Paul Lorraine knows this level inside out. He has won this league and is a true competitor.

“He was Ebbsfleet’s club captain last season and is a no-nonsense centre-back.

“I had Osei at Farnborough when we came runners-up in Conference south. He can play at centre-back or right-back and his versatility is important to us.

“He played 40-odd games for Ebbsfleet last year. These are two quality signings.

“I’m bringing in players who know what it is like to be successful at this level.”
