James Walker must prove himself again to Eastbourne Borough.

The former Charlton, Leyton Orient, Yeovil, Southend and Gillingham striker was a popular figure at Priory Lane the season before last.

He scored three goals in 15 appearances before leaving due to personal reasons.

Walker, left, then headed to Australia where he played for Albany Creek Excelsior.

However, the one-time England under-18 international is back in England and on trial with Eastbourne Borough.

Walker scored the only goal from the penalty spot as Borough won 1-0 at Crawley Down Gatwick on Tuesday but manager Tommy Widdrington says there are no guarantees.

Widdrington said: “James has been training with us for the last couple of weeks. It is a case of us looking at him and him having a look too.

“If he wants to come back he has to prove to me he is worth it.

“We have Richard Pacquette, we have Darren Lok. I do want another striker but I have James and another couple who are all looking to be the one.”

Widdrington plans to make a decision on his trialsts after tomorrow’s game away to Tonbridge Angels.

The Borough boss has also confirmed he will be registering Jay Lovett as a player. The club’s academy player, who is now 37, played for Lewes in Ryman premier last season.
