If we continue to sign players who are reliable, and have the necessary experience, we will be challenging for the top six again. Someone solid and dependable for every position is more important in this Division than spending your money on one or two 'star' players, while leaving other areas under-strength.
I am encouraged by the arrival of Chris O'Grady. Chris was 12th on the Championship top scorers list last season ahead of Leo.
Five of the players above him are now in the Premier League!
There is usually a premium attached to buying a striker, and there is no guarantee that the outlay will be repaid in goals. Chris has scored 15 for a relegation team, and that has to be a good recommendation of his abilities.

Now Leo has gone need to spend the cash wisely, Wardy Linguard another No9 a keeper, although me thinks if it is who i think it is you guys will be surprised, not in a good way but we will have to wait and see what happens. LVG has said he wants to look at all the players, i dont think Jesse is up to what standard he wants to see, i think we still have a chance of getting him. And for me an experienced box to box midfielder like crofty but with the defence splitting passes. Not asking much but starting to feel optimistic.

Anybody who went to Spotland in 2011 or Oakwell in April will have seen how effective this player is at leading the line and putting himself about. He has an excellent spring and wins all his headers with back to goal. I think an excellent purchase- but needs another striker around him to feed off his headers .

On the club website Hyypia points to O'Grady as, 'one of our targets,' that suggests that he was not an over night purchase. Hyypia also tells of our need of yet more fire power, so I suspect that a further striker is on the cards. I have paraphrased his words.
I notice that SH talks about acquiring other attacking options (plural). I think that could mean signing not only another striker (obviously needed to replace Ulloa) but also another winger and ( I trust) a creative midfielder. Actually I wouldn't be totally surprised if two more strikers were brought in since 4 strikers would provide SH with a wider range of forward choices
SH also said that other areas needed strengthening - presumably a GK and a LB as a minimum. At least the proceeds from Ulloa's sale should provide a contribution towards SH rebuilding the squad.
The next week or two should be interesting on the recruiting front. UTA.

The short memories of some people amaze me. They seem to forget that 2 albion legends were bought from non league clubs.

Peter Ward came from Burton Albion for not a lot of money

Gary Hart came from Stanstead for a grand a a set of kit.

Bothe went on to establish themselves as Albion Legends.

I hope Chris had a great season and makes these people eat their words.

And what about John Keeley. Bought by Barry Lloyd from Southend for £1,500 where he was driving a taxi and playing part time and sold to Joe Royle at Oldham for £200,000. Then got an injury and played only a couple of games for Oldham. Good keeper!

No doubt you were one who was telling us a year ago how Oscar was a brilliant manager who would steer us to glory playing the Barca way and would be at the Albion for years.
I predicted he would be a failure and wouldn't last a year and I dubbed him a trainee manager. I was right. I usually am!
