Albion development squad winger Jeffrey Monakana has joined Aberdeen on loan for six months.

Monakana was signed by the Seagulls in January from Preston for an undisclosed fee on a development contract until June 2015.

He made more than 40 appearances in League One for Preston and Colchester on loan but has not been in first team contention with Albion.

So that where he disappeared too. Good move for him get some decent first team football under his belt and in 6 months time he could have improved enough to get in the squad or he loaned out again. Good luck jeff

This loan will take him toward the last six months of his contract with us, he has a chance to show what he can do for us and for Aberdeen. If he does well he could get a new deal with either club.

I wondered why Monakana didn't play for the DS at the weekend against Stoke (see New faces thread). Now we know why. Let's hope he benefits from the time with Abetdeen.

In light of what Crawley had to say about him I just hope that his fitness levels ahve increased.

Is the fact he's played nearly 50 games for Preston proof he will never play for the Albion?

The last I read was that his 'representatives' said there were one or two small details re personal terms to be finalised but they didn't anticipate any problems.
Perhaps everything is still progressing, I guess we will find out soon. If there is a hitch difficult for SH and DB to continue with getting players until it is resolved. Let's hope it is finalised soon.

According to local Leicester paper, he had his medical yesterday and was expected to complete the paper work tonight. Deeney is as well as, not instead of Leo.

Remember John Gregory had him on loan at Crawley and basically pointed out that he is running out of time to prove himself and risks throwing away a career in football. Appears he's not closer to playing for us and Crawley obviously didn't want him back.

Agree with MBTS we will not see him playing at the Amex in a first team game (for Brighton!).

Great quote from David Burke on the official website....."This is a great opportunity for Jeffrey to go to a successful, well run club, and to play for one of the top teams in the SPL" It makes it sound like he is not currently at a "successful, well run club" - either this is a mischievous comment (unlikely), a bad turn of phrase, or me just seeing things that are not there.....

So why and on whose recommendation was he signed? These points you mention are so obvious if they are the case. A phone call to Arsene Wenger, John Gregory and a couple of others would soon have highlighted these issues.

Also, I'm a believer in watching players in the flesh to see what they're truly like. I do have a concern about the size of, and reliance on, our DVD analysis team. Managers and scouts used to go out to live matches all the time. Does that still happen?

Agreed. His fitness does seem to need improvement and there are rumours of some issues (attitude). Don't know if that's true but hopefully they are being resolved for his sake.

A six month stint at Dons should be a good opportunity for him to gain match practice, experience and a chance to shine, either for our attention or other would-be suitors. Meantime we get a better look at him than DS action would afford and save money on wages into the bargain.

My hunch is that he will leave in January for a low token amount to Aberdeen if they are interested.
