Ultimately it is good business by the club. Part of the fee reduces losses and part to strengthen the squad. Since Jan Leo's mind already seemed somewhere else and the money was too much to turn down. Now lets see how it is invested.

You get thumbs down for the way you put it but I'd take the two of them back without a second thought.

We should never have let Murray go... He was the best striker in the Championship 2 seasons ago.
As for Dobbie... He was the most influential player on the Amex pitch 2013/14 when we played Blackpool.

I'll take the thumbs down with you on this one. I'd love to see them both in the stripes again.

We need a quality replacement for Leo. I see Brentford have snapped up two prolific goalscorers - 22 year old Hogan of Rochdale - who I remember was outstanding when they knocked Leeds out of the FA Cup. Keith Hill says he is Premiership class, and 23 yr old, Gray of Luton who scored 30 goals last season. Brentford even snapped up the talented Odubajo from Orient - - a player who we apparently bid for in the January transfer window. A very useful midfield player - Danny Pugh, has gone to Coventry on a free. I find it unbelievable that these sort of players which we should be snapping up - are finding their way to much smaller clubs like Brentford and Coventry.

With these striker additions, Brentford have a very potent look about them - and could well finish above the Seagulls if we don't add a quality striker soon. In addition we are lacking in midfield and need at least 2 defensive players as well as a goalkeeper.

If we refuse to pay over our budget for quality players - we are in danger of once again missing out on the rich pickings both from the Championship and from the lower leagues - and will once again be forced to get either young, inexperienced players like Lingard on loan from Premiership clubs or else players like Upson and Ward. These stop-gap measures are hardly planning for the future, nor building up a cohesive squad for an assault on the Premiership - but instead may be construed as a continuation of the policy of cashing in on our amazing attendances whilst spending as little as possible.

Good luck Leo - enjoying watching you. Particular highlights, the winner against Forest, the opening goal against Palace in the 3-0 win and the hat-rick against Huddersfield. Sad that it is not like the (very) old days when we have got three or four years out of a player before we had to sell them on but that's the game now. Great selling price as well, just want to see some positive developments re player recruitment over the next few days.

we are not required to clear our debt, our requirement is to not add to it, so cutting our losses is our obigation.

The idea that we have to spend big to get, 'quality,' is in many cases wrong, Ward will cost the club around 100K in transfer fees, if we sign him, is he considered good enough to play foe us?
Hughes at 500K isn't a big fee, not by general standards, he popped in 15 goals whilst playing for a relegated club, how many did Ulloa score in the same season and against the same opposition?

I think we can spend without increasing our debt and I don't think it means that we will end up with bargain basement players. Who we borrow might end up being more important than who we buy this season.

we are not required to clear our debt, our requirement is to not add to it, so cutting our losses is our obigation.

Hughes has got about 5 goals in his whole career.....I think you mean O'Grady. Sorry!
yes my error, I got the names mixed up, thanks for the correction.

Hughes didn't score 15 goals - COG did.
yes my error, I got the name smixed up, but I think my point is still valid even if I did make myself look like a right dip stick.

Not to mention £3.5m for Bridcutt.

Shame he didn't hang onto Murray though.

So you're saying players like Hogan from Rochdale and Gray of Luton are better bets than the likes of Lingard, Upson and Ward?
Sorry mate, don't get it.
It sounds like you're just miffed because other clubs are in the news signing ANYONE instead of someone....
Our time will come.

Good luck Leo, wished you had stayed but there you are, money talks, and maybe it will be the catalyst for BHA to invest in good players in the vacant positions, GK CB LB Striker etc and launch a real promotional effort this season.
When I feel a bit down about players leaving and not many arriving, as yet, I always think back to the black days of ground share Gillingham, and getting soaking wet ,watching showers of leaves tumbling down at the Withdean Stadium.
We are in a far better place today ,in so many aspects, I remain optimistic ,and have faith in Mr Bloom and us the fans to continue to be right behind the Seagulls.

I agree. He's quite decent but no way is he worth £14m. With the money they got for Torres and the mark up on value for Luis Suarez, Liverpool are proving to be quite shrewd movers in the transfer game (Loic Remy's price the latest example)....yes I know the Carroll deal was an almighty aberration, but everyone's allowed one mistake, surely???!!!

I was more meaning/hoping that Leo comes back to haunt Gus ( in the nicest possible way - I am not a Gus-hater) as I don't rate Borini myself - Think Dave is right he is a fool to refuse Sunderland's offer - as For Brendan Rogers - well - maybe he could come and manage here one day when he has fallen foul of the media and is no longer flavour of the month -- bloody good manager!
