Crawley will continue to monitor the progress of former Netherlands international striker Collins John.

The 28-year-old, who made his name at Twente and Fulham, scored his first goal on trial with the Reds in last night’s 1-1 draw with Albion.

Manager John Gregory was happy with John’s all-round contribution in his third outing for the club but will not rush into a decision as to whether to sign him.

Gregory said: “He is a really genuine guy who wants to give his best all the time. He is playing for a contract. I have to assess his performance, his fitness, his attitude and everything else you do when you are looking to recruit.

“He ticked a lot of boxes tonight. We will have a look at him on Saturday again and maybe next week. I will take my time and make sure he is the right one.”

Gregory yesterday made 21-year-old Canadian midfielder Emmett O’Connor his 14th signing of the summer after he impressed on trial.

Gregory said: “Emmett was recommended to us, paid his own way over here to try to earn a contract and he has really impressed me and the staff here.

“He works hard, has got plenty of skill and an end product in terms of his crossing and finishing.”

Former Watford youngster Bobson Bawling may follow him. Gregory added: “We will probably sign him before the weekend.”

Former Colchester left-back Ryan Dickson missed last night’s game with a minor niggle.
