James Tredwell has been backed for a Test call-up after helping Sussex record an historic double over Warwickshire.

The on-loan Kent spinner took 4-7 as Sussex bowled the Bears out for just 99 at Horsham to seal an emphatic 226 run victory.

It was the first time since 1960 that Sussex had beaten Warwickshire home and away in the Championship – and only the fourth time ever – and significantly eased their relegation fears.

Tredwell has only played one Test against Bangladesh in 2010 but is a regular in the limited overs side.

Sussex team-mate Chris Jordan is due to link up with the England squad today ahead of the third Test at the Rose Bowl and believes Tredwell could be the solution to the side’s lack of a specialist spinner.

Jordan said: “Tredy is a high-class bowler. He has shown that at international level already.

“He has already proved he has the right mental attitude to play for England so I am sure he could make that step up to Test match level.

“He has got a solid action and he gets purchase off wickets. Since he has come to Sussex he has done brilliantly and he got his rewards in this game.”
