Whitehawk have added a full Gambia international who played in the Scottish Cup final two years ago to their list of summer signings.

Pa Saikou Kugabi, who has also played in Germany for FSV Frankfurt, has agreed a deal with the Hawks after impressing in Tuesday’s friendly with Lewes.

Congolese midfielder or forward Serge Makofo, pictured, is also signing after netting twice in a 2-2 draw with the Rooks.

Kujabi has won ten full caps for Gambia and can play anywhere down the left.

The 27-year-old had unsuccessful trials with Portsmouth, QPR – where he scored an outstanding 35-yard free-kick in a friendly – and West Ham before signing for Hibernian for the 2012-13. His season ended with a red card in the Scottish Cup final as Hibs lost 5-1 to arch rivals Hearts.

Manager Steven King said: “We have agreed a deal with him. He is a tremendous signing who can play anywhere down the left and will give us options.”

Makofo, also 27, began with Milton Keynes Dons where he scored on his debut in a Football League Trophy game against Bristol City and last season he played in Cyprus with second division side PAEEK.

In between, Makofo has played for a number of clubs including Kettering, Maidenhead, Grays Athletic, Burton Albion, Grimsby Town and Farnborough.

King has now brought in seven players this summer, having already signed goalkeeper Lance Cronin, defenders Paul Lorraine and Osei Sankofa plus midfielders Sergio Torres and Sam Deering.

He is continuing to monitor a number of other trialists and expects to make decisions over the next few days as the preparations are stepped up ahead of the opening Conference south fixture at home to Staines Town on August 9.

The Whitehawk boss also believes he is close to agreeing a deal with left-back Lee Hills to stay at the club.

Former Crystal Palace and Stevenage defender Hills impressed last season and his position would not be comprised by the arrival of Kujabi.

Whitehawk are at home to Peacehaven tomorrow before visiting Bognor on Wednesday.
