New Albion deal for Dunk

Lewis Dunk

First published in Sport by , Chief sports reporter

Albion centre-half Lewis Dunk has signed a new four-year contract.

The 22-year-old is the latest young prospect to pledge his long-term future to the club after Solly March, Jake Forster-Caskey, Rohan Ince and Christian Walton all recently agreed new deals.

Manager Sami Hyypia said, "Lewis fully deserves this new contract. He has proved that he is worthy of a place in our first-team squad, and he has a very bright future ahead of him.

"He has come through the club’s youth system and developed as a player. It is now up to Lewis to work hard, continue learning and try to earn a regular place in the first team."

Dunk, currently troubled by an ankle injury, has made 68 senior appearances.

This is excellent news. As others have said, this is a big season for the lad, but a four year deal shows the faith the club have in him.

Makes sense to tie the lad up for four years, and he couldn't have a better mentor. I have a feeling that Dunk could be as good as money in the bank this time next year.

Another positive move to retain our young talent. I'm sure under Hyypia he will make even more progress. It also, of course, means that if he attracts interest from another club, he'll command a greater fee.
Good luck to him and I hope he can establish himself in the team on merit after what have been a difficult two seasons for him.

I think that this is geat news. His performances last season were very encouraging and he is young enough to cotinue to improve and to perform in the top flight. We do need another CH and hopeully we can start to achieve the signings we need. I am worried that these seem so slow to materialise and while we need to get a good deals we also need to make the right signings to mantain what momentumwe can

Agreed, but I'm hoping he stays with us even beyond the four years. Just needs a run in the team and could be as good as we've had in years. Quick, tall(ish) and an excellent passer.

Very happy for Lewis as he clearly has quality which he showed in abundance the season before Gus departed. He's learned for his mistakes and I'm pleased the club has stuck by him.

On a general subject about methods of running the club. The following article is interesting. Especially when I consider we are after a top goal keeper and I know from MU that this guy is quality. More to the point is the connection and relationship between Ferguson and the real boss. No 'Lackies' in between these two.

Manager Darren Ferguson has hailed the double signing Peterborough made on Friday.

Michael Smith joined for an undisclosed fee from Bristol Rovers and goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, a free agent who had been on trial with Blackpool, signed a three-year deal with the club.

Ferguson told the club's official website: "Michael Smith is someone we have been tracking for a while. Right-back is a position we knew we had to fill.

"We narrowed the list (of targets) down and Michael was the number one. I think he will be a really good signing, he is a decent age and has played a lot of games in his career. He was in the League Two team of the year and to be voted into that team by your peers is a great accolade.

"He is a great athlete, good technically and one that I believe will be a great signing for us. He was adamant he wanted to come and that was extremely important.

"We are delighted to get Alnwick, we feel with his quality and experience he will make a big difference to us.

"He is really focused and a good age (27), so should be coming up to his peak."

Friday's signings meant Posh had signed three players in the last two days, after securing a loan move for Spurs youngster Kenny McEvoy.

Speaking about his chairman, Ferguson added: "He has been brilliant. The one thing about him (Darragh MacAnthony) is he backs you, when he can.

"We have brought three in this week and feel we are finished unless there is a special one that becomes available.

'The chairman rang me last night at around 9pm and I was actually ready for bed and he told me the goalkeeper was done. It was great, I can't believe how quickly it has been done. I am delighted with the business we have done.

'I thank the chairman for backing me, now it is down to me and my staff to get three or four out to balance the books."

Sorry but I must jump to the defence of poor old Tug who is the only one so far to have earnt thumb downs. I am sure his comment is being misinterpreted - we had to sign Lewis up, it would have been foolish not to. In that light perhaps you should go back and revisit his post and give him a few thumbs up.
However Tug, if you were in fact being detrimental to the lad I shall immediately resign my self-bestowed role of President of the Tug509 Appreciation Society, an appointment I have coveted for many an hour or two.

Yes he is and he is so well respected by DF and the football world in general. He's managed great big clubs and is well liked and respected within the game. When you have a D of F like that it can work. It's when the D of F can't hold a candle to the manager, which has been the case with us ever since David Burke was appointed, that's when problems arise.

'The chairman rang me last night at around 9pm and I was actually ready for bed and he told me the goalkeeper was done. It was great, I can't believe how quickly it has been done. I am delighted with the business we have done. 'I thank the chairman for backing me, now it is down to me and my staff to get three or four out to balance the books."[/p]
Think you will find Barry Fry is there as DOF He does the deals that DF identifies[/p]
Yes he is and he is so well respected by DF and the football world in general. He's managed great big clubs and is well liked and respected within the game. When you have a D of F like that it can work. The only problem ringtone is he's not a 'fellow scandi'! He's Swiss! I know what you mean though. It's all about chemistry between coach and player as LVG explained in his first MU Press Conference.

There was no one with more so called 'baggage' than our mate Joey Barton but look how Harry Boy got the best out of him last season. Said he wasn't a moment of trouble. I think you could be right with Bendtner. He's different that's all. Nothing wrong with that and I'm sure he wouldn't be massive money. Another one who comes to mind like that was Anelka. Look how well he did for Bolton!

I agree let's give him a try!

Ipswich have ended their interest in Lita after a trial.
Mick McCarthy has probably seen more of him than we did, and I trust Mick's judgement on this one.

So i was 100% correct yet again with the Dunk & JFC PR team out in force on this very sad story.Just like i pointed out in Jan TK and Bridcutt told me at Brighton marina Ulloa would go this summer because he wanted out long ago because he saw no future at the club and very little hope of prem-league football at the club which he told TB and SH before the move.Bridcutt pointed out back in Jan the JFC and Dunk deals are a done deal because of their familys. Not one other club has asked about JFC this summer so they give it a 4 year deal on double the money, and now the same with Dunk. The wonderful JFC didn't even look a good league one player against Crawley lol.Any real fan with half a brain could see this coming a mile off.The very reason Leo is now at a real club, and Sammy Lee turned the club down.Anyone that thinks Dunk is a great player try watching that Derby game again, and also the Hull games lol. Also ask why both clubs have not made a bid for it.This site just has the same small minded people on it day after day talking pure rubbish.About just 20 people tops with 2 being just PR people for the club. There are 25k other fans not buying into this pure rubbish.

The trouble is one-armed CBs aren't much use so you'd immediately lose that miracle opportunity....it's the lack of leverage to make defensive headers, you see!

Why? Because he is a contemptible twit(sp?) who would represent the worst value for money in our history. He would never come anyway as he is the self-proclaimed "best striker in the world"!

Two things:

1) he IS Scandinavian - Danish
2) he WOULD be massive money...he is driven by money as proved by his ugly boasts to all and sundry in the past. His wages have been laughably high for a limited striker.

Knew it was too good to last. How long before you get banned this time?

I never understand someone who can complain endlessly about a particular player, or two at the moment, but not produce one comment to validate what is being said. All that ever comes out is bitter vitriole. Must have a personal reason I guess.

If someone hates the club this much then why bother reading about the club and posting on here. That will never get the majority of other posters on side and agreeing, but then you don't care anyway. Quite contradictary really. Enjoy the streets of London.

Its simple just ask why not one other club in the country wants it? Please do name another club that thinks his a great player. If his going to be such a great player in the future top clubs would move in now b4 this deal was signed with a bid of about one or two million. If and i mean a very big if should he become a good player in the future he would cost them lots more maybe 2 or 3 times that.Try watching the games against Hull and Derby again and say his a great player. As for JFC he looked pure non-league at Hull last season, and not much better against Crawley the other night.
