Sami hails ace Crofts

Andrew Crofts back in the thick of it at Crawley on Wednesday

Andrew Crofts back in the thick of it at Crawley on Wednesday

Albion boss Sami Hyypia has hailed the quality of Andrew Crofts.

The midfielder is expected to get more game time at Peterborough today following his comeback from six months out with cruciate knee ligament damage as a late substitute at Crawley on Wednesday.

Hyypia said: “He’s a quality player and I like to have quality players in the squad who are fit.”

Former Peterborough loanee Crofts has a head start on midfield rival Dale Stephens.

The January signing from Charlton has not featured in pre-season after rupturing an ankle ligament against Yeovil at the Amex in April.

Hyypia has cast doubt over Stephens’ availability for the start of the season.

He said: “I’m not sure, we’ll have to wait and see. It’s going to take a while before he is fit.”

Solly March is expected to return to action in Albion’s final pre-season friendly at home to Southampton on Thursday night. The England under-21 international suffered a hip bone knock at Crawley.

We need to start the season well to establish a positive feel. I know it is a cliche but the opening 6 games could well decide the season. Fancy the lower promoted sides likes Wolves , and a team with money like Rotherham ,not to be relegated this time so it is going to be tough going in this division even more than usual.

Having Crofts back is like a new signing in itself. Good to hear Sami talking him up. His is certainly a quality player who can add plenty (including goals) to the team. Fingers crossed for an injury free season. If anyone deserves a run of good fortune it's Crofty!

UTA!!

A few more with quality required. But on another angle we think we have problems , i am actually feeling for Saints fans this season . They had a great season last year and now they seem to have lost most of their side. Every time i see a paper or football site another player has left . Another youngster this morning going to Arsenal for 16 million !!.They must hate being a feeder club to Liverpool and Arsenal. They will have a huge pot of cash but relegation will be difficult for them to avoid this year. Puts Leo sale in perspective.
Perhaps they have come out in sympathy with us and decided our friendly should be a five-a-side :-)

Morning, I couldn't agree more it is like a new signing, shame about Stephens being not quite fit yet, I think CMS is like having a new player as well, before people say he was back for some games I no that, but all off the bench, a injury free season for him and play him in so he runs on to it with his pace 20 goals I'm going for this season,
Up the Albion!!

Good to have Crofts back, his experience will be vital this season with such a young squad. Not looking like many additions will be heading to the Amex anytime soon so players like Kemy And Ince will have to step up to the plate. Could be in for a rough ride at London Road today but I hope I'm proved wrong. UTA

When Crofty picked up his injury last season you could see it was a major problem from the moment he went down and the whole crowd let out a sigh of collective disbelief. "Oh no!" He is such a great playmaker and can grab a few goals as well. Glad to have him back. Yes, like a new signing.

He will make a big difference if he retains last seasons form - we need a midfield presence. One other quality addition there like Mr Lomers suggestion of Adam Clayton or Chris Burke would bolster it considerably. Then Becchio (oh-hum!) and Stockdale maybe. Almunia and Marco Cassetti have been release from Watford - there are options out there but we dont need these "6 or 7" players -- just a few quality additions would be good enough. Tell me if the headline tomorrow was Brighton have signed Becchio ( or similar quality as I cant see it - much as I would like it ), Clayton and Almunia would anyone on here not suddenly be seriously looking forward to the next season? Chicksen is more than good enough at LB so give him a crack. SW - dunno - give up - he might want £3K pw more ( where do people get these figures from? ) but it is a very minor transfer fee for him to sign so it is a no-brainer for me -- we sign him for peanuts - he plays out of his skin for another season and someone comes along and buys him from us and we make money - rather than he leaves and goes to Leicester - for example ...
In a nutshell though what I am saying is quality not quantity!

Four players that could end up having the biggest influence on our season ahead, Crofts, CMS, Buckley and Kaz, and would I say that no matter who we bring in.

I am a tad surprised that the Stockdale signing has dragged on, if indeed were have made a bid for him, from his point of view it would seem like a good move.

The main area of concern for me right now is our back five. Apart from needing a number one keeper, to my way of thinking we still have a hole that needs plugging, one more center back.

Indeed. A mate of mine is a Saints fan and he foresaw this happening. Unfortunately for him and his fellow fans this prediction has come true and some!

Their youth policy is undoubtedly a major reason for their recent success and flourishment, but it is also now a reason for their angst.
