Albion newcomer Chris O’Grady is relieved to be up and running after revealing he signed while injured.

The former Barnsley striker made his debut in Saturday’s 2-1 friendly defeat at Peterborough.

O’Grady missed the previous game at Crawley last week following his £500,000 move from Oakwell.

He told The Argus: “I came in nursing bruised ribs from a pre-season game with Barnsley before we went to Italy. It’s never good to sign for a new team and to be in pain.

“I’m very happy to have shaken it off and to have got through the game. I’m feeling really good.”

O’Grady, 28, made an immediate impact, setting up Albion’s early goal for Shamir Fenelon.

“That’s what you have to do, show that you fit in and show what you can do,” he said. “I was pleased, obviously not with the result, but that I gave everything and showed a bit.”

O’Grady will make his first appearance at the Amex in Thursday night’s closing friendly against Southampton.

He said: “I’ve been there to sign but it was empty. It will be nice to see the fans there.”

Morning, I honestly think O'Grady could turn out to be bargain off the season, he's quick fantastic in the air knows where the goal is, Barnsley away we couldn't cope with him last season, he will contribute plenty scoring or in assists, half million pound is nothing for a player!!
Up the albion!!

I think you may be right. He sounds an honest guy and wants to perform no just take the money.

Think he will be a fans favourite, need another proven goal scorer though.

A worthy replacement for Barnes and obviously more happy to be here. At 500 thou he is looking like another bargain and Stockdale must be a bargain as well . DB & TB doing a great job. I am confident the replacement for Ulloa will be signed before long. The team is coming together just as the club told us it would.
There has been fantastic communication from the club lately especially on player most of which end up free on the club you-tube channel , social networks, numerous media interviews and even a fans forum. Its only seems like a few years ago when we used to get next to nothing. Looking forward to another season at the top end of the Championship.

Thanks Dave, Albionbloke, have a look at it, it's not a long article but gives some insight into the clubs silence over its transfer activity.

But he's not fit though is he. And once the going gets tough he'll be on the move again to club number 12 is it? I wondered why no other clubs were interested in him and now we know why, an ageing journeyman who is injured half the time.

Thanks dave - Barber's pic looks like he's (at best) a mortuary attendant, and/or (at worst) some kind of serial killer.

O'Grady is a steal at half a mill - I'd say a good bit of business.

The atmosphere is so different now we've signed DS.
As I've said before, let's give COG a chance. I think we've signed a gem here. Forget how many clubs he's had because maybe he just hasn't found the right one yet. Until now. Onwards and upwards. UTA

Absolutely right!
In Stockdale and O'Grady we have signed players reaching their peak - and the signing of a first class goalkeeper is in my opinion is a proverbial 'game changer'.
I remember the first signing Brian Clough made for Nottingham Forest prior to their outstanding domestic and European success in the seventies and early eighties was the talented goalkeeper Peter Shilton. Clough argued that such a player was the cornerstone of a great team - and so it proved!
