John Gregory admits he is concerned by the injury Gavin Tomlin sustained in Crawley’s 3-2 defeat at home to a Chelsea XI today.
Summer signing Tomlin went off early in the second half with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
With Matt Harrold currently recovering from a minor knee operation, Izale McLeod would be the only recognised forward available to Gregory should Tomlin be sidelined for any period of time.
Gregory said: “It is a little bit early. Gavin has a history of this type of injury.
“It is a bit worrying for me at the moment. I will have to see how he responds over the weekend with the medical staff looking after him.
“He might have tweaked a hamstring which is really bad for us because I thought we saw the best of him today.”
Gregory was pleased with the performance of his starting line-up who led 2-0 at half-time.
They conceded three goals in six minutes in the final quarter of the game after making 11 substitutions.”
The Reds boss said: “I was delighted with what went on in the first half when we had our full-strength team on the pitch.
“I was really pleased with the way that worked out and the way they were playing. We were in total command at 2-0.
“We put on everyone else (in the second half). It is the only way I can look at them. The training ground is not the right scenario when you are looking at trialists and loanees. Get them in a match situation and it tells you a lot about them, whether or not they can handle it and obviously one or two of them couldn’t.”
