Gordon Greer has hailed his move to Albion as the best decision of his career.

Swindon were above the Seagulls in League One when Greer was signed by Gus Poyet four years ago.

It has more or less been success all the way since then for Albion and their Glaswegian centre-half, who has played for seven clubs either side of the border.

Greer, 33, told The Argus: "It's been the most successful time I've had as a player. We won League One and have finished in the play-offs twice and playing for Scotland.

"That coincided with the new stadium and training facility so I've been very fortunate that I've been part of the club at the right time and I'll just give everything I can to maintain my place here.

"It was a big decision (to sign) but when I spoke to the manager, Gus, at the time I just felt it was right. I wanted to play in a team that played football and when I spoke to him it was an easy decision for me.

"People maybe thought it was a step backwards but looking back it was a really good decision.

"It's definitely exceeded my expectations. I'd obviously played against Brighton at Withdean. I wasn't fully aware of the fanbase the club had until we moved into the new stadium.

"The fanbase the club has is fantastic and obviously they have got the infra-structure now with the stadium, the training ground. I think in the future the club will really kick on."

Greer, in the final year of his contract, would like to think he can go all the way with Albion to the Premier League and end his playing days at the club before moving into coaching. But he is not looking beyond another challenging season in the Championship.

"I would love to stay here and get to the Premier League with Brighton," he said. "At the same time you can't really look too far ahead.

"It's up to us to play as well as we can. It's a tough league. It would be a dream come true to play in the Premier League but there's a whole season ahead of us, so I wouldn't get too carried away this this moment.

"I know some people look at players and think they follow the money and go where ever they want but it's not quite as easy as that.

"We've had players here who would have loved to stay but didn't get offered contracts. Likewise there are players that have probably stayed here that don't want to be here.

"I'd love to be here but it's not about me, it's about the club and what I want as well. I don't want to go into coaching for a few more years yet. I am fully focused on playing and maintaining fitness as long as I can."
