Gordon Greer reckons Albion’s new striker Chris O’Grady could haunt his old club Sheffield Wednesday at the Amex today.

Skipper Greer expects the former Barnsley marksman to be a vigorous handful for Championship defences this season.

O’Grady scored nine goals in 53 outings in the Championship and League One for Sheffield before joining Barnsley.

Albion bought him from Barnsley for £500,000 last month to beef up their attacking options.

Greer told The Argus: “He’s come in and he’s done well. He’s a handful, a man-mountain.

“We played against him last year and he works really hard and he is really strong physically.

“So it’s something different we’ve got now that we maybe never had previously.”

Greer is prepared for a stern examination from the Owls on the opening day of the season.

He said: “They are a really good, hard-working side. They struggled a bit last year.

“When we played them away I thought we played quite well but they beat us 1-0. It will be a tough game and a good first test for us at the Amex.

“We’ve been training for six weeks, all geared up to this first game. We’ve been training hard and hopefully we can go out there and put on a good performance. The main thing is that we get the win.”
