Albion are back - but who would you ask to kick off the season?

Will Buckley started the first game of 2011-12 on the bench. But what role could he play today?

Will Buckley started the first game of 2011-12 on the bench. But what role could he play today?

First published in Sport

It’s another fresh start for Albion at the Amex today.

For the second season in a row, they kick off with a new man in charge.

The top four contenders for player of the year honours last term have all left.

But there are new men on board and others who have recovered from injury since play-off defeat at Derby.

So which team would YOU send out if you were in Sami Hyypia’s position?

Would you partner Chris O’Grady and Craig Mackail-Smith in attack?

Can two of Solly March, Kazenga LuaLua and Will Buckley play in the same team?

How about left-back? Do you go with youth or rather the experience of Inigo Calderon, albeit out of position?

There is a lot to ponder.

But who would you pick?

What does it matter what we think, Argus?
Sami is not going to read or take note of it, is he?
Now all you are doing is cultivating a boring list of permutations of players in the vain hope of increasing traffic on the site to promote more advertising.
Can't anyone else see this?

For this tough first game I would like to see ,Stockdale in goal with Bruno ,Greer ,Hughes and Calderon in the LB position as I think we need experience to get off to a good start . MF ,Ince and Crofts in the middle for strength Kaz on the left and I would push Solly back on the right ,with COG and CMS up front together ,the more time we are in their area the less they will be in ours ,subs as and if needed .UTA

Crofts and Ince in the middle of midfield is very solid, Greer and Hughes similar to last year and Stockdale for TK so not too much change there, Calderon left back for me, Bruno right back, Buckle down the right, March or Lua Lua down Left with CMS and Ogrady up top

Seperate note I hope Kemy figures this year, surely the guy is fit now, if not must be a attitude issue, would be a decent addition, would love another striker, centre half, left back, ball playing midfielder and a 25 goal striker, not asking much really

Uckfield, agree about Kemy I just posted on the previous thread, do not be surprised to see him involved today, he played a part in all pre season friendlies and I thought he looked sharp against Southampton.

Keepers a no brainer, Stockdale. On pre-season form a back 4 of, Bruno, Greer, Dunk, Chicksen, wouldn't risk Caldi at left back, not his best side and we need Chicksens pace imo, same for Dunk, the extra yard of pace will be vital.
In the middle, we need some muscle, Ince, Crofts, Agustien.
Up front, width and pace, Buckley or March, LuaLua and Cog.
Subs, Walton, Caldi, Hughes, Jfc, March or Buckley, Fenelon, Cms.
The telling thing is going to be Hyppia's tactics, pre season it's been a high back line, pressuring the opposition, but leaving our defence a bit exposed hence my preference of Dunk and Chicksen (pace).
An early goal would be nice to calm the nerves (players and fans) a 2 goal lead before half time and Albion to win 2-1.

Scarlett says she wants COG and CMS to play together, Rhett but you've left CMS out. don't you care what she wants? (That's a cue for you to use the famous reply.)
However, I don't think Sami will do it, worse luck.
It was evident from the FL review on Sky last night that the more successful teams use two strikers or two in the middle rather than just relying on one.

Albion to win 3-1 today with CMS, Lua Lua and COG on the scoresheet.

Absolutely agree. No point trying to second guess the team. In this opening match the 3 points are more important. 3-1 is my gut feeling (ever the optimist) but I'd take any margin any which way.

Couple of name variations for me but understand your 'pace' requirement. Don't like the score scenario - sounds too much like hanging on desperately for the final whistle all second half.
