Gordon Greer has been backed to add to his four Scotland caps in the new season.

Greer leads out Albion for their opening fixture against Sheffield Wednesday today.

But he also hopes to stay in the Scottish team this term.

And Scotland assistant boss Mark McGhee believes he has impressed national manager Gordon Strachan.

McGhee said: “I think he's established himself in Gordon's mind clearly and securely as one of the players who, if he is fit, will be in the squad.

“He has done really, really well for us.

“I think Gordon especially likes the fact that not only is he the right size and he's a defender but he has played in (Albion) teams that play from the back, get the ball down and don't just hoof it.”
