Gavin Tomlin has been named as a substitute for Crawley Town away to Barnsley today.

The former Port Vale forward suffered a hamstring injury in the final friendly of pre-season against Chelsea a week ago.

He has made a good recovery to be named in the matchday squad but manager John Gregory has opted to start with Lewis Young.

Young is one of eight full debutants in the Crawley starting line-up and nine new signings in total, including Gwion Edwards who completed a permanent move from Swansea in the summer.

Edwards and Young are expected to support McLeod from wide positions with Conor Henderson sitting as the deepest of three central midfielders.

There are another seven summer signings on the substitutes’ bench, including Charles Banya who signed a short-term deal on Thursday.

Crawley: Jensen; Oyebanjo, Leacock, Walsh, Dickson; Simpson, Smith, Henderson, Edwards; Young, McLeod. Subs: Bradley, Banya, Rose, Bawling, Tomlin, O’Connor, Spiegel.

Barnsley: Davies; Brown, Crainie, Nyatanga, Dudgeon; Berry, Bailey, Hourihane, Jennings; Winnall, Rose. Subs: Digby, M’voto, Abbott, Bree, Treacy, Nana, Dibble.
