Brave effort by #bhafc for the last 40 with ten men. Key save by Westwood to deny O'Grady.— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
A few home fans have stayed to clap Albion off.
But the celebrations are away in the South Stand.
It is now turning a little ugly as a handful of Wednesday fans seemingly try to get on the pitch.
And that concludes a concerning afternoon for Albion.
Five minutes added time were given but Wednesday were seeing the job through comfortably.
85: Wednesday send on Madine for Nuhiu.
Att: 26,993 (2,667 away)
81: Maghoma makes way for Semedo. That's a predominantly defensive midfielder replacing a winger.
82: LuaLua booked. Presumably dissent.
Three at the back for Albion since the last change with Hughes out towards the left - and LuaLua working back when needed.
CMS and O'Grady in partnership in attack.
Back to Crofts. He is competitive, not malicious. Only 2 reds in his career previously, 2009 #bhafc v Orient. 2010 for Norwich v Burnley.— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
76: Final Albion change as Mackail-Smith replaces Calderon - which is quite clearly NOT like for like!
74: Bruno booked for a foul.
That was a superb ball in by Calderon by the way. Hard and low, out of the keeper's reach and behind the defence.
Deserved a goal.
69: That was so nearly the moment. Greer finds himself on the edge of the box in open play, picks out O'Grady with a lovely ball in and the new striker shoots. But Westwood dives to his left to tip his effort around the post with a brilliant fingertip save.
70: The corner eventually falls to Calderon, who works a one-two and crosses low across goal. Greer cannot quite there and the ball ricochets off a defender and wide.
The great thing about live reporting is you can go back afterwards and see how you - and others - felt at a given time.
No chance for hindsight.
So right now, at 4.26 by the Amex clocks, I'll suggest a draw would be a good result for Albion.
Hard to see where a goal can come from.
61: Double change as Fenelon makes way for Buckley and Agustien replaces Forster-Caskey. Like-for-like switches, both of which made sense.
62: Wednesday look to get Nuhiu in but Hughes stays on his feet and makes an expertly timed challenge which home fans appreciate.
63: At last a hint of excitement for the North Stand as Buckley crosses from the right - but straight at Westwood.
Crofts red will be worth looking at it again. One observation, not as much widespread dismay from #bhafc players as might have expected.— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
Nick Osborne's tweet said just what I was about to type!
Very well observed minutes applause during the 52nd minute, in memory of #bhafc supporter Phil Gray who died recently aged just 52.— @djnickosborne 09 August 2014
55: Loovens booked, seemingly for delaying a free-kick.
56: Great chance for Wednesday as Maghoma gets in behind the defence, commits Stockdale and squares for... none of his team mates.
Wednesday got a couple of dangerous crosses into the box in the aftermath of the red card.
Their fans are sensing the kill.
Then Forster-Caskey walked thin ice with a foul on Palmer.
Deemed by ref Linington to have gone over the ball. Wednesday players protested. Most people were expecting yellow, not red. #bhafc— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
48: Maguire appears beyond the far post to volley over from a testing angle from Mattock's deep cross. The ball wasn't dropping quickly enough for him to really get over it.
50: Nightmare for Crofts on his return from injury as he fouls Hutchinson and, with the crowd anticipating a yellow card, the red is produced by ref James Linington.
Well the debate has continued over half-time as to whether Coke unleashed a perfect curler into the far top corner.
Or whether he arrived on to a cutback, knew he had a 6ft 6in striker heading towards the far post area and decided to clip the ball in that drection as quickly as he could.
Either way, it's 1-0 as the second half starts.
No changes at the break.
The last tweet I brought you refers to the very quick taking, seemingly from the wrong place, of a free-kick awarded maybe ten yards inside Albion's half in the build-up to the goal. But a lot happened between then and what I think was probably was a moment of magic by Coke.
Blame the ref for the goal, but we could and SHOULD have defended better - that and you can't stop goals like that #BHAFC— @HawkTheSeagull 09 August 2014
Loving the attack minded football, just need it to click! #bhafc #confidence— @garypetersICP 09 August 2014
Good defensively, nice passing in midfield, can't see where we're going to get a single goal from up front though. Time to buy. #BHAFC— @LewesTom 09 August 2014
There was a threat of an equaliser in the final seconds of the one added minute.
Albion got Calderon to the byline and his low cutback reached LuaLua on the edge of the box.
The crowd expected LuaLua to blast right-footed but he checked on to his left and dragged a shot low across Westwood - and just beyond the far post.
It was probably Albion's best attack of the half.
...and that's half-time
40: Wednesday go ahead with a curling chip by COKE which clears Stockdale and finds the far top corner. He was running on to a lay back by Maghoma and I'm not totally sure if it was a shot or a ball to the back post. But it ended up inch perfect for Wednesday.
37: Dangerous cross from Mattock overlapping down the left aimed for Nuhiu. Ex-Wednesday striker John Pearson, sitting right in front of me, almost wanted to head it in himself! But it looked like Hughes, giving away about six inches in height to Nuhiu, just got a glancing touch to take it away from the Austrian.
39: Albion perhaps a little fortunate to be awarded a corner but the decision is not contentious as O'Grady heads over from the flag kick.
#bhafc enjoying more possession but no real goal threat from either team in opening half-hour.— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
30: That new pattern in evidence again as Forster-Caskey picks out Bruno's run with a terrific angled, chipped ball. We all thought Bruno would have a blast on the volley but he opted to knock back for O'Grady, whose shot was saved quite comfortably.
It was good vision by Forster-Caskey to pick out Bruno's run - but also suggested he knew what he had to look for as soon as he got the ball there, 30 yards from the byline out towards the left.
24: LuaLua goes on a run first outside, then cutting back in as Calderon's charge forward in support takes away defenders. But a 25-yard right-footer is slightly scuffed and rolls gently wide.
Good work twice wide right from Crofts indicative of the wingers tucked in and more midfield width under Hyypia. #bhafc— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
Early impressions are that we could be in for quite a cagey affair. Wednesday, as expected, have Lee trying to find space off the front man and ahead of the engine room of Coke and Hutchinson.
I'm noting down attacking contributions by Bruno and Calderon because, if the plan works, there will be a few of them!
I won't bother noting down a shot just now by Ince which sailed well over, although the build-up was good. Bruno pass, O'Grady shield and lay-off - the sort of combination we might be seeing a lot of.
Albion just starting to get into their stride.
14: The game's first goal attempt of real note comes after Mattock's poor ball puts the Owls in trouble. O'Grady moves on to it and finds LuaLua appearing to his left. But LuaLua is driven a little wide and his left foot drive produces Westwood's first save in Wednesday's colours, diving low to his right.
10: Forster-Caskey booked for lunging in late on Lee. He put himself into trouble with a heavy touch and then slid in to try and win the ball back.
13: Cheers from Owls fans behind the goal as O'Grady drags a shot well wide after turning on to Bruno's pass
Wednesday offered an early threat when Maghoma got a cross in from the left - but it was too high even for 6ft 6in Nuhiu at the far post.
But suddenly Albion got Bruno surging forward and Maghoma had to defend as he blocked the right-back's volley for a corner which was worked short, played in low by Forster-Caskey and cleared.
RT @JBizzle1982: Already love Stockdale. Went to every player to gee them up pre-kick-off. Love it. #bhafc— @DUBDualYYZ 09 August 2014
Huddersfield say they have been in 'advanced talks' with another club over Clayton. 'Deal remains possible but not yet concluded'. '#bhafc— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
Early signs of what to expect as Calderon is furthest man forward - but can't get on to Hughes' long ball.
Fenelon has started out to the right of attack.
Season 2014-15 is up and running for the Seagulls.
There will be no change of ends. We are set to go with Albion playing North to South.
RT @Scottwilsonecho: No Adam Clayton in Huddersfield squad, and no Jacob Butterfield here at #Boro. Talks still ongoing about both moves.— @AndyNaylorArgus 09 August 2014
The first openeing game before a completed Amex - and there is a terrific atmosphere around the stadium as the teams walk out.
Wednesday have pretty much the whole South Stand and home areas look pretty full, other than a few small empty patches in the East Upper.
So here we go again. Season No.4 at the Amex as Albion take on Sheffield Wednesday.
This time last year we were at Leeds and Albion had no debutants in their starting line-up.
This year there are FOUR new faces, including youth team product Shamir Fenelon (formerly Goodwin) in attack.
I'm sure we are hoping for an improvement on what we saw last time here, against Southampton.
But it has not been a perfect close season for Wednesday either, with an ongoing takeover making it hard for them to sign players.
Still, the Owls have a big support here - about 2,500 - and there is a buzz among the home stands too as hope springs eternal on opening day.
