This was the moment which divided opinion at the Amex today.

Andrew Crofts was sent off on his return to competitive action after seven months away.

The midfielder was dismissed for a foul in midfield on Sam Hutchinson.

Crofts and skipper Gordon Greer are clearly stunned by the decision - while Sheffield Wednesday fans celebrate in the background.

Wednesday boss Stuart Gray felt the decision by referee James Linington was spot on.

His counterpart Sami Hyypia declined to comment.

He said: "I can't change the decision so why would I talk about that?

"There's all kinds of speculation.

"Was it a red card or not? That's just a waste of time for me."

Crofts’ new team mate Chris O’Grady said: “I thought it was slightly harsh. I don’t think it was worthy of a red card.”

And ex-Albion defender Gary Chivers told listeners to BBC Radio Sussex it was an "unbelievable decision".

Gray, however, praised Linington's handling of the game, notably in the first half.

The Owls boss added: "He has caught him. I'm pleased Sam got up because it looked a nasty challenge.

"The referee took his time - whether he got information from his fourth official.

"But I think it was a straight red."

He added: "I don’t think the red card made any difference to the result because we controlled the game before it and we controlled the game after it as well.”

It's one of those which could have gone either way, but it didn't look any worse than Forster-Caskey's challenge which only got a yellow card, so I was surprised when a red was produced.

It was also a bit of a shock seeing a red after watching the World Cup all summer when it was possible to knife an opponent then stone him to death before tarring and feathering the corpse only to see just a yellow card produced.

Also was unnecessary to make a reckless challenge as it wasn't a dangerous position. Too many players were off there feet when challenging for us today.

You wouldn't see our Olympic stars do such a thing.
My daughter attended the match today and she thought the supporters and players acted like a bunch of hooligans all day and all match.
The alcohol drank in and around the stadium was also worrying.

Most of the clubs young players are big time unfit night clubs drunks.Anyone that saw the football league show tonight can see most other championship clubs have lads of just 18 playing out their skins and being linked with prem-league teams already. They did not say one word about prem-league clubs looking at our vile freeloading drunks. Also it was 100% a sending off not that the clubs PR men on radio sussex would admit that.

Oh my lord it has got another name, when is this person going to be banned for life. It is quite funny really, does he think we don't know who he is? Like the saying goes "A rose by any other name is still a rose", works the same for idiot.

See Sunderland have put in a bid of £2.5 million for Buckley. If this is excepted we would have banked £10.5 million for 2 olayers. What plans does Burke, Bloom and Co have as ideal replacements? Nothing in the pipeline so far, need to act soon if we are going to challenge for promotion
