Teenage substitute Dean Bown headed a late equaliser as Eastbourne Borough drew 1-1 at Wealdstone in Conference south.

The point was no more than Boro deserved, especially as they were missing three key defenders.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Tommy Widdrington’s side fought back strongly after the interval and Dean Sinclair had a penalty saved before Bown netted in the 90th minute.

Whitehawk lost 2-1 at home to Staines Town. They trailed 2-0 after 32 minutes to two goals from Louie Theophanous, the first a penalty.

Sam Deering halved the arrears early in the second half but Hawks – with a host of new signings – could not force an equaliser.

Peacehaven marked their Ryman premier debut with a 2-2 draw at Leatherhead thanks to goals from Josh Jones and Jamie Brotherton.

Luke Blewden put Lewes ahead in a 1-1 draw at Witham Town while Bognor lost 3-1 at Canvey Island despite taking the lead through Ollie Pearce.

In Ryman south, promoted East Grinstead drew 1-1 at Redhill thanks to a late leveller from Dan Turner.

Greg Luer scored the only goal as Burgess Hill won 1-0 at Hythe Town and Hastings United beat Walton Casuals 2-0.

But Worthing lost 2-1 at Faversham after taking an early lead through debutant Trevor McCreadie’s penalty and Horsham lost 2-0 to South Park. Nigel Brake scored as Three Bridges drew 1-1 with Folkestone Invicta.

it takes more than money to ensure success, TW has a sound strategy concerning the squad...all that glitters is not gold even if it has been touched by the hand of king midas at the enclosed ground....
