Buckley linked with Premier clubs

Will Buckley

Will Buckley

Will Buckley could be the next Albion star to secure a move to the Premier League, according to reports tonight.

The winger is said to be attracting strong interest from Sunderland and West Brom.

Sunderland, managed by Buckley’s former boss Gus Poyet, are reported to have offered about £2.5million for his services.

Poyet signed Buckley for £1million from Watford a little more than three years ago.

Buckley was only on the bench for the Seagulls when they lost to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday, despite the late withdrawal of Solly March with a back problem.

Albion stars Matt Upson and Leo Ulloa both moved into the top flight by signing for Leicester during the close season.

Well I for one would be devastated if he goes, although it seems inevitable now. One of the most majestic players I've seen wear a Brighton shirt and a really top lad to boot. Agreed though he doesn't seem to have reached his potential here and has struggles since Poyet left with the injuries etc not helping. I really hope Sami finds his feet quickly and brings his own team together.
Gus truly was our 'special one', that is becoming more an more clear despite the conspiracy theorists and anti-Gus sentiment around.
Anyway Pablo..move on!!

Please go Buckley, the most disinterested player on Saturday, came on for 25 mins ran around aimlessly for the first 10 mins then disappeared into oblivion for the remainder. I promised that I would buy everyone in the North Stand a beer if he scored with his head last season....the bet was well safe as he won't head the ball in any situation. He has talent, speed, a good shot but this is all so infrequent he might as well not play. I will not be sorry to see him go. We only need players who are going to give everything for the team and sadly he is not one of these. UTA.

Ok there are good reasons to sell Buckley, but what terrible timing. Season already underway, transfer window less than 3 weeks from closing so very little time to get decent replacements in and for them to gel. Having a decent team to entertain the fans is clearly not on the menu. Bloom is blatantly asset stripping as if we're in administration, very worrying. Even the toilets are out of order at the Amex as Bloom has removed all the copper piping from the water supply and sold it all off to a scrap metal dealer for extra cash. It's almost as if he's trying to recover as much as possible before upping sticks and moving on. Very worrying.

I remember standing in the pitch at Huddersfield after our 2 1 win in 2012, as Will Buckers was interviewed by sussex radio.
I recall him saying how much he enjoyed his football under Gus, he reckoned Gus played him to his strengths and was really enjoying playing for him.
He had scored both goals that day, and always looked dangerous on our attacks.
Since Gus has gone, it seems so has the old Will Buckley, looks not interested, that's if he not injured.!
Best sell him to Gus for 3/4 million.
But Mr Bloom, unless BHA start signing some decent replacements for all this exodus of our best players, I for one will not be spending any more of my pension money, travelling from guernsey to Brighton, or any away games, to watch second rate team.
I will wait for a month to see what happens, but if it continues to decline in quality, I fear I won't be the only supporter feeling like this.
I watched seagulls at the Goldstone when I was eight years old, I am 69 this year, so sad.
Please Mr Bloom do something !

This is no suprise and I suspect already provisionally agreed with the player and sure to be Sunderland bound. No good having a player that contributes a third of the games and probably his heart is not in the club anymore.
Well, this now makes a mockery of PB's PL ready statements and I am sure we will get some replacements before transfer window ends but they won't be high profile I am afraid.
The club had a five year plan to be in the PL and this is now in tatters dominated by financial issues and it seems pretty obvious there are serious financial problems. The club is now a commodity run by corporate body and the heart is being slowly ripped out of the club unfortunately.
Fans are taken for granted, price increases all round and given no meaningful information as to the clubs aims.
This all started with PB introduction and for all his faults GP was generally (yes there were a few exceptions)had a real eye for a player.
Van Dijjk could have been bought for 2m and now worth 11m according to reports,he also had the charisma to attract players, something lacking with OG and I fear SH.
The blinkered rose tinted spectacle fans will of course disagree with all of this but even some of them are becoming disillussioned with the inactivity surrounding the playing side.
As I have said many times there needs to be some accountability and remedial action taken to address this slide and it needs to be quick.

I agree with many on here. WB is past his best. Not in terms of age - he should still be well up there but in terms of fitness and motivation. He hasn't been the same since coming back from injuries with much less pace and strength. I dont think he's enjoying his football here. When he first joined us you could always sense that something might happen when he played, whether he started the game or came on as sub but now he looks listless. He was invisible on Saturday.
I know the squad is getting smaller but as he will sit out half the season on the physio's table I think we should cash in. After all, he nearly went in January with Bridcutt.
Maybe the suits might see fit to replace him. God, I hope so.

Of course some player values increase, but property will, on the whole, be a much more sound investment. And Bloom is a businessman at the end of the day despite the god like status some on here seem to bestow on him. He wants a return on the money he has ploughed in. I`m not a businessman but I would have thought from his point of view it would be better, if we were a thriving business with sound assets and a full stadium every home game ,we would surely be far more attractive than we are looking at the moment ,provided of course there is anything to this side of the story .

Agreed. Bit of a poor man's Darren Anderton. £2.5M is a good deal for us. What the clubs does with the money is another matter..

If PL clubs come sniffing, then players and agents heads are turned. You cannot blame the club for this. All Brighton are guilty of doing are bringing the player on, making him attractive to the PL. If a player wants to go, it is really hard to keep them.

If we are able to get £2.5M to £3M for a player who has not been the same player since Gus said he was better than Zaha and then signed a new contract I think we should take it. WB has the ability to be a game changer as we all know but has not done it often enough. Whether he had caught wind of Premier League interest prior to Saturday or not I don't know but he did nothing when he came on and looked completely disinterested. Yes he may of been a wee bit miffed not to make the starting line up but when you get that opportunity show the manager you should be picked, which I am sorry he didn't. If we do get this fee being quoted for WB I just hope like everyone else it is used to bring in new additions. Not panicking yet and reckon we will have a good squad in place by the end of the month. Lets all remain positive. UTA

Up the Albion. The seasons not over yet!

If Buckers puts in a transfer request or Gus wants him--lets get a good deal --aka Ulloa---for about 3m and get rid quickly or he will end up like Bridcutt---not being in the right frame of mind to play.
Agree with Guernsey--we are same age---we need to get Tony B to start spending some money before all the decent players have gone elsewhere. The Clayton saga is dragging on too long as with Ward. Was Clayton at Sats match?? ARE we in for WARD?? Do they want to come here? If so get the deals done!! **** footing around IMO and NOT fair on folk like Guernsey. I would not like to say the wheels are coming off but the nuts certainly need tightening--if you get my drift!!!!

Unfortunately we have had our Messiah in the form of Gus Poyet dismissed because he did not conform to the clubs transfer policy overseen by burke by name and burke by nature if this close seasons transfer moves are the result of his endeavours. Oscar came but very quickly decided that trying to get quality players to come here was a lost cause and all he could get was loanees as the three B's dont want to spend any money on players so he jumped ship before his own reputation suffered. Then we were told a lot of high profile coachs and managers were interested in the managers position ,HOWEVER WORD SOON SPREAD,this was not a good place to come and so Mackay,Coyle, Lennon,Sherwood etc quickly distanced themselves from the job Sami obviously didn't get the message and now has to make do with a League 1 journeyman as his main striker a couple of free transfers for his defence and midfield and a goalkeeper who has not really played very much in the Premiership It looks like they are getting ready for an offer for the whole setup because otherwise we will end up back in League i .

You lot are unreal! Buckleys best position is on the wing with wing back in support. Garia and Hypia are not playing him in his best position or system, Gus did, Buckley still has it, its the managers who have lost it, we need to keep him and get the best out of him. Hypia is out of his depth. Calderon left wngback, Kaz inside left, no Macca or Buckley on the wing, no width = no chances, all against relegation battlers. I could not believe my eyes. Keep it simple, play the players in their best positions and build the system around the players strengths not the other way round. Basic common sense!!!!!
