Albion target Adam Clayton's proposed move to Championships rivals Middlesbrough has taken another twist.

A Boro source has confirmed Clayton failed to turn up for a planned medical with the North-East club last week amid interest from the Seagulls.

It has left Boro midfielder Jacob Butterfield's £750,000 switch in the opposite direction in limbo.

Boro's £1.5 million deal for Clayton remained on the table last night, although they are reportedly reviewing their position.

The transfer has been confused further by Huddersfield sacking boss Mark Robins after Saturday's opening 4-0 home defeat by Bournemouth.
