Albion linked with Liverpool prospect

Albion are being linked with a season-loan loan move for Liverpool left-back Jack Robinson.

The Seagulls have yet to seal a deal to bring Republic of Ireland left-back Stephen Ward back to the club on a permanent basis from Wolves following his loan spell at the Amex last season.

Robinson, 20, was identified by The Argus as a potential signing for manager and former Liverpool stalwart Sami Hyypia at the end of June.

Robinson has plenty of Championship experience after loan spells with Blackpool last season and Wolves the year before.

The former England youth international became Liverpool's youngest ever player in the final game of 2009-10, aged 16 and 250 days.

Hyypia switched the experienced Inigo Calderon to left-back for Saturday's opening Championship defeat by Sheffield Wednesday at the Amex.

I take it we've given up on bringing back Ward then, isn't this lad younger than Chickensen who should be kicking on to being our left back in his own right, I find that a bit strange,

The full backs were obviously being told to push high and try to support the attack against Sheffield Wednesday. Calde did quite well and gave 100% as always, but he struggled to get many crosses in as he does not have a left foot. I dont know a lot about Jack Robinson, but if Stephen Ward and Paul Konchesky arent happening then i hope its a good move, and hopefully he has a decent left foot on him.

I really want us to sell Kemy Augustien. I think he is absolutely awful! He looks so lazy to me. He lost the ball numerous times on saturday and showed no desire to win it back.

I think Kemy Augustien's laziness comes from the fact he's so fat and always recovering from various injuries. He hasn't played more than 20 games in any season since 2006–07. At the age of 27 he should be at the peak of his career, but he doesn't look committed enough to me.

The fact that he was banned from driving for clocking up a massive 39 points (before the Albion signed him) tells you everything you need to know about his character. Something went very badly wrong with our recruitment process when we decided to give him a 2 year contract. I think our only hope is that he pulls himself together in order to try and get a new contract at the end of the season (hopefully with another team)!

Make an offer for him then. Probably get him for £50. ;-)

Personally I hope that we can get a LB other than Ward now. He is more interested in money than playing football. Robinson might be a good bet for a season particularly if Liverpool are paying most of his wages! Im not sure Chicksen will ever quite make the grade. Konchesky? Well maybe. He's got the experience. Riise? Always liked his style of play. But could we afford him?

Apologies: this is a rehash of a post I made on a different thread 30 minutes before the Argus published their article...

From all this can one assume that Sami and Brendan Rogers have been talking...? Whatever, that would seem to sort out the left back spot - he was at Blackpool last season and comes with the obligatory ligament injury but then again that's par for the course. Hopefully there won't be any Lingard clauses and Sami can drop him if he has a howler. In the same way I hope Chicksen can see a future at the club and maybe go out on loan for a while. I was secretly hoping for a bit more experience than this (excluding Ward) but who am I to wonder why.

Fingers crossed it all turns out for the best. UTA...!!!

Good points jw8508 re our left back situation.
Having seen Chicksen play against Peterborough and Southampton I had anticipated Calde playing in his place. and posted on here to that effect.
I think Chicksen needs to go out on loan to get some playing time. Indeed I also think another loan would benefit Fenelon. Unfortunately with our threadbare squad we can't afford for that to happen until the 'few signings' that TB said were needed and being pursued have been completed.
With our reported interest in Robinson it looks as if our interest in Ward has ended (assuming we were in the first place).
Then there is the saga of Clayton. Unusual for a club to put out a Statement as Huddersfield did about Clayton on Saturday. It is well worthwhile reading the Northern Echo's report on the story. They say that apparently Clayton wants to join BHA but no fee has been agreed with us. They also state that Butterfield's potential £750,000 move to Town is affected.
Clayton's fee to Boro is quoted as £1.5 million and therefore Boro are only offering £750,000 cash in addition to Butterfield. I would like to think that a straight cash offer from the Albion might be simpler and more attractive..
Exactly who the other 3 or 4 players we need to add might be is anyone's guess. Names being mentioned include Ibe (Liverpool), Lingard (Man U) and Baldock (Bristol) although the latter seems unlikely.
Of course if Buckley departs, as various National papers are indicating, then that would require yet one more replacement to be recruited.
With only 3 weeks to go until the Transfer Window shuts and with so many uncertainties in the mix, it looks s if the club are in for a busy period on the Transfer front.
I trust that Burke and Co justify TB's faith in them and deliver the players that SH wants and needs, I also hope any acquisitions are made sooner rather than later since the Albion will benefit if SH can start integrating them into the squad at the earliest possible opportunity.
As TB requests I will reserve judgement on how successful we have been once the Window has closed. Should we only have signed 2 or 3 (I expect t least 4) new players I will not be happy with the comment 'we can use the Loan Window to obtain our remaining targets'.
Time will show whether we are successful in recruiting the players being pursued. UTA.

Lot of speculation again today about transfers that may or may not be happening...Clayton, Buckley, Robinson, Ward etc.

I do hope the powers that be get it all sorted before the start of the season. Oops, my bad.

I can't believe how many fans still have faith in the three Bs with what has gone on during the past four months. Absolute shambles. If they were running a proper business, two of them would have been fired by now.

The idea is to hit the ground running but, as many previous posters have pointed out, we'll be at the foot of the table before they've finally sorted the first-team squad out. I can just see the posts now come next April/May...if only we hadn't lost so many winnable games at the start of the season.

I'm not a happy camper this morning.

I think the 3 B's had a plan- I think however that plan, whatever it may have been has not worked out and has back fired somewhat! I now believe that given where we are at in the transfer window all 3 are scratching their heads trying to devise a plan B- although I don't think they know what plan B is!

Taking months to appoint a manager never helped us.

This season we will end up with a bunch of loanees that like Lingard, Andrews, Ward and the various others over the years will return to their parent clubs or to another club at the end of the season.

We therefore need to hope that this seasons loanees (whoever they may be) keep us up and that the 3 B's with Sami included start devising a plan for next season NOW that will see a major overhaul of the squad with multiple permanent signings being made the second that the season finishes- not weeks into a new season.

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail!!

I just hope that we dont have another managerial change any time soon- as we would be royally stuffed then!!

The way some people go on eh. Anyone would think this is life and death stuff to get so wound up about. It's not like any of us are going to pass away if we don't sign this player or win that match or whatever. The constant criticism of The Argus as well. I don't have the inside contacts that so many of the contributors on here clearly do (yeah right) so I for one am grateful to read it, be it on this site or some other source. I do however wish the 'three transfer in by next week' kind of inaccuracy would stop.

Yes, it's great to watch our team win and do well. We've had one game this season and already we're relegated? Really? Some people need to get a life and take a reality pill, mainly those holding up the 'woe is me we're all doomed' boards without actually giving anything more to the debate.

For my part AC isn't up to it at left back yet and needs a loan away. SW coming back would be good and getting Robinson on season-long loan in addition really positiveas we need proper cover in that position. However, I agree it's unlikely both would come. Liverpool want Robinson to have playing time. SW wants more money (at the moment and if we believe rumours) and I suspect would also want a two year contract which I bet the club won't offer him.

SW wants more money (at the moment and if we believe rumours) and I suspect would also want a two year contract which I bet the club won't offer him. gilbertthecat

The Ward saga has dragged on all summer when it should have been dealt with one way or the other once last season had finished. As ever, we're far too slow and never strike while the irons hot, so we're left scrambling around and hoping for the best. This lad might be ok but probably not quite good enough to rely on yet. Should have gone for Ward who has the experience needed.

We do always seem to be one step behind. Why don't we buy before we sell. or at least have a deal agreed. We sold Barnes and then the planned replacements didn't work out. Now we have sold Ulloa without seemingly having a replacement deal in place. It leaves us with a heap of cash, and every potential selling club knowing we have money and so we are forced to play a waiting game, hoping they will give in at the last minute. That sort of tactic might be good when running a normal business, but this is football and the season has started.

When we got promoted we had Buckley, CMS and Hoskins signed weeks before the start of the season. But that was when Gus was at his most influential and before Burke and Barber arrived. The phrase 'false economy' springs to mind. I am not in the 'relegation battle' camp, as we should be better than 6 or 7 teams that immediately spring to mind, but we are losing precious momentum.

A nice all round area to live. So WHY are these players not joining our club?

I really want us to sell Kemy Augustien. I think he is absolutely awful! He looks so lazy to me. He lost the ball numerous times on saturday and showed no desire to win it back.
UTA.

jw8508 I have already posted a comment about your accurate analysis re our LB position.
However I wanted to separately post my agreement with your and Quiterie's observations about Agustien. He really doesn't add anything to the team and if anything detracts from it.
What's most frustrating is that one can see in very occasional 'flashes' that there is some talent there.
If only we could sell him. Given that we seem to be pretty good at selling players for a profit witness Barnes, Bridcutt and Ulloa one would think we might be able to secure some deal for Agustien.
Perhaps the fact that we haven't says it all ! One of the club's least successful signings IMO

Yes, it's great to watch our team win and do well. We've had one game this season and already we're relegated? Really? Some people need to get a life and take a reality pill, mainly those holding up the 'woe is me we're all doomed' boards without actually giving anything more to the debate.

Why do I get the feeling we might get one or two in before the window closes and then have to wait another couple of weeks while we trawl for cheap loans. They're really going to have to pull something out of the hat if we're all going to be happy by the end of the month!

Beautiful, award winning stadia. Top rated state of the art academy.

I'd give both up for more humble surroundings at half the cost if it meant watching footballl week in week out of the likes seen in Withdeans last year.
We had a heart then... It was a club for the fans and believe it or not, I really looked forward to both Saturday games and the night outings.

This club of ours has changed... Yes we have moved on and have shiny things to be proud of... At the end of the day though, we appear to have lost that special spark..... I miss it.

The point is that the '3 B's' want a team based on the youth coming through from the DS with a sprinkling of loanees - unfortunately you will never 'build' a team with loanees and you can never be sure that the youth will really make the grade either! TB promised in his two-part interview that the fans would be happy with the squad at the start of the season - the fans are clearly not happy and Bloom has back-pedalled by saying wait until the close of the transfer window - but if we REALLY want to kick on we should have signed our alleged targets by now and whilst we all understand FFP compliance we will never get into the Premier League (if that's what we really want?!!) and STAY THERE by signing the COG's of this world!!

I really want us to sell Kemy Augustien. I think he is absolutely awful! He looks so lazy to me. He lost the ball numerous times on saturday and showed no desire to win it back.
We couldn't give him away let alone sell him. We should pay him off and cancel his contract.
