Dunk sends Albion on the way to cup win

Lewis Dunk heads the opener

Lewis Dunk heads the opener

Albion are up and running under Sami Hyypia – thanks to a first senior goal from Lewis Dunk and a bit of spark off the bench from Kazenga LuaLua.

LuaLua, a 68th minute substitute was involved in both goals as the Seagulls beat dogged Cheltenham 2-0 in the Capital One Cup.

He won and took the corner from which Dunk headed home Inigo Calderon’s precise cross for the 79th-minute opener.

Then LuaLua slid the ball through for Craig Mackail-Smith to add a 90th-minute second.

Albion got better as the tie wore on but looked to be heading for an evening of frustration as Dunk and Chris O’Grady headed over and Kemy Agustien failed to convert a one-on-one cleverly created by O’Grady’s pass.

"Dunks!" - is there more than one of them now.....anyway good to see him score his first career goal and might prove more of a threat at set pieces than Greer or Hughes. Sounded like a dull night at the Amex but pleased we managed to take a small step forward.

Pleasing result on a night that could of gone pear shaped. This result must not detract from the need of more players sooner rather than later. Again this will not stop the negative posts against the performance/players, who are performing as required by Sami. Hopefully Saturday's result was a blip.

Not for Crawley against Ipswich with players on just 3k a week and gates of only 3k.Lewis Dunk is now on 10k a week and CMS is 17k a week.We just got a win against a very poor league two side.80mins of pure rubbish.

We just need three more Kazengas on the pitch
Once again he saves the day

Great post and that was not even all their first team.Dunk and Calderon given big trouble in the first half.Very lucky against a poor team.

Ummmm, they didn't have any shots, on or off target , in the first half, Were at the same game? It wasn't great but at least we won which is more than we usually do in these games.

Not a great game especially in the first half. Bruno in midfield was an experiment that didn't work. Agustien was same as last season. Poor. Positives? Chicken looked good going forward. Ince won lots of ball and looked strong. CMS was very lively and made numerous good runs but sadly no one saw them and no through balls played to him until KLL came on and did his usual good stuff. And they scored two goals!

ok let's look at the positives. Stockdale's distribution was good. Chicksen was better than against Soton but when he ran against them he would stop 10 yards before the first 1 and pass sideways or back. Greer was a worthy mom, some Rioesque romps forward. You could kind of see what Sammi was trying to do with Bruno and once or twice it worked. Oh and of course KLL can turn a game but we all knew that anyway.

It was a rubbish game against a rubbish team but hopefully Sammi learnt something

Mediocre performance. Back four untroubled apart from Calderon being caught for pace a couple of times. Chicksen looked good but had no defending to do. Agustein distinctly average and looked like someone yet to score in English football. Ince impressive. JFC worked hard but free kicks and corners were dreadful. Bruno did OK. CMS and O'Grady lacked real quality where it matters. Kaz looked a class above anyone else when he came on. Squad desperately thin but we won 2-0 and Sami actually got to his feet a couple of times !! Best moment - ball boy trying to find the ball among empty South Stand seats !!

Well, a good enough performance against a decent, well organised Cheltenham side. Patient and professional.
I always thought we would stand firm, and wear them down, then bring on our impact sub LuaLua and hit them with late goals. And so it proved.
Several good performers tonight: Dunk, CMS, Greer and Chicksen all quite commendable.
A tough effective performance from O'Grady who will surely net 10 to 15 times this season.
Best of all, Hyypia is now a winning Albion manager.
Small steps, but I feared a distater tonight so on that basis, I'm happy.

Bearing in mind the fact we lost to Newport this time last year it was a good result. A bit under inspiring I grant you but we never looked like conceding, Stockdale did not have to make a save and we popped up with two good goals. Nothing to moan about here, although some will because that is what they do in life.
Adgustein really does need to get fit though, he is carrying far too much weight which is surprising after a full pre season.
