Albion star Will Buckley is expected to become a Sunderland player today as a summer of change continues at the Amex.

The Seagulls’ first million-pound man underwent a medical on Wearside after the two clubs reportedly agreed a £2.5 million fee yesterday.

Sources close to the Stadium of Light were last night expecting the deal to be completed within 24 hours.

The move would see Buckley team up again with his former boss Gus Poyet, who took him to Albion from Watford three years ago.

Buckley cost the Seagulls £1 million in a deal which included a sell-on clause handing Watford 15% of any profit from a future sale.

The 24-year-old only featured fleetingly in Albion’s first two games under new boss Sami Hyypia.

But his move is likely to increase calls from supporters for new signings before the current transfer window closes.

Albion target Adam Clayton yesterday completed his move from Huddersfield to Middlesbrough with Jacob Butterfield moving in the opposite direction.

Huddersfield chief executive Nigel Clibbens revealed he received offers from and negotiated with “a number of Championship clubs” but the fact Boro could offer a midfielder in return was “crucial” in securing the deal.

Meanwhile Rangers boss Ally McCoist has spoken out after Albion were linked with his star left-back Lee Wallace by some sources.

McCoist said:“Lee is a very important player to us.

“We’ve had absolutely no contact from Brighton and Hove Albion at all and no, I don’t expect him to go.

“I’d be hopeful as manager of the club that we can keep our best players and Lee certainly falls into that category.”
