Hyypia: We're better than that

Sami Hyypia looks unhappy at Birmingham today

First published in Sport by

Sami Hyypia reckons Albion under-performed at Birmingham City today.

And the Seagulls boss was far from happy about it.

Hyypia is still waiting for his first point as a Championship manager after a 1-0 reverse at St Andrew’s.

He said: “We can't take a lot of positives out of the game. I didn't like it.

“I know that on the ball we are a much better side than we showed today and in that way I am disappointed with the performance.

“On the ball somehow, I don't know if it was nervousness or something, we couldn't get our game going at any time in the 90 minutes.

“It's very important that you start well. We didn't start well and Birmingham put us under a little bit of pressure but the pressure was not that big that we couldn't play."

Mentioned on another thread that I've been following the abion for 40yrs and you need to get used to the ups and downs. For those of you who remember , I feel the Mike Bailey years coming on again.....pack the mid field and watch gates plummet to 11000.

Positive = we are not bottom ................. Yet!!!

Need some strong investment otherwise we soon will be. Money needs spending. We could also save on Burke's salary by allowing the manager to speak to the prospective players. If I heard a club were interested would I rather talk to a champions league winner or someone who believes (in his own mind clearly) that he can attract nothing but the best!! Hmmm let me think

Questioning squad character in my book. I really don't think he's a happy bunny and the phrase, if you think I can do something with this lot, then you must think I can knit fog" is one that springs to mind when thinking about any conversation with his bosses.
Big promises and massive assurances from up top, but minimal, underwhelming action.

Sami you have the support of 99% of BHA fans, however our board do not. Tony Bloom is a very good chairman but David Burke has to go, our transfer policy since Gus left has been horrid, Gus and Oscar must of left due to this man, if we are skint Tony tell us why we are, we deserve that, this is going to be a long hard season unless things dramatically change. Worse team for 10 years, have replaced quality with rubbish to be honest, you have brilliant fans Brighton, dont take us for mugs and come clean

Can always get some strange results the first few games. We lost our first two games last season. . At least we won our first cup game this year so you could argue we are better off. The new players coming in have taken on a bit more of an urgency though. last year it was injuries this year we haven't got them all

I disagree we are an average league 1 squad playing in the championship. If the club don't pull their finger out we will end up like Coventry with league 1 crowds in a premiership stadium and not viable. Our chairman may have saved us but this is illogical

I've not quite done 40 yrs but it's starting to bloody well feel like it! What's happening at the moment is a needless down imo, had we spent just £4m out of the £14m banked on say 4 or 5 players we would be ok and the bank account still full!

Every time he speaks he says something negative and noteworthy. For a newly appointed manager his disillusionment after such a short time at the club speaks volumes.

I know the team are not firing on all cylinders at the mo, but I just wish Hyypia would get up from the bench and start showing some passion in the Albion technical area, he was sat down for 80 mins at the SW game stood up, sauntered for 30 secs then sat down again, legs outstretched and arms folded, didn't acknowledge the crowd at the end....did pretty much the same at the Cheltenham game...where's the enthusiasm, the arm waving, the shouting...even if it's at the 4th official. We are doing our job in the stands singing and cheering on the team so let's see some from you.

My Dad used to go regularly from the 1950s. Jacked in his season ticket after season with Mike Bailey - when we got our highest league finish - because of boring footy. Seems OG and SH have got a problem with width. Brighton fans are fickle. I was sitting regularly in crowds of 4k at Withdean during McGhee and Wilkins time. How long before we get the 8k that we had at the Goldstone? We need to play 2 wingers on the wings - flair and excitement. Not fullbacks for width and 4 central midfielders.

Sami, we got what we deserved, nothing. You are only as good as your last result. Managers that whinge are not well received by us fans. We need realism and straight talking please. You have not yet got the side organised. While the squad needs some more building, you have a good first team, but they are not organised, and working for each other. This is your job to sort out. I for one will not be calling for your head, as it takes time to get a side balanced and working for each other, so please get on with it!

It's the arrogance of the suits which is so overwhelming... whether it is to us or their attitude to the players when trying to negotiate pathetic contracts which are bettered by every club around us. Look at Bolton who are millions in debut but have signed Joe Mason, a one-time apparent Albion target. Gus knew what was coming. Oscar too (he couldn't wait to get out). It will not belong before we see the first sub-20,000 gate for a league game at the Amex.. although the suits will no doubt puff that up with a false figure by adding up all the season ticket holders who have not turned up but have paid up with their hard-earned cash.

My daughter witnessed foul language and drunken hooligans last week.

Im quietly happy that BHA are losing because they should have never ever got that stadium.
My daughter took two days to get over watch she witnessed last week..
I understand there was many arrests at Birmingham yesterday.
So now Birmingham folk can see what Brighton has become.

Keep it up Hyypia.....no points, no goals , no hope and NO CLASS ON AND OFF OF THE PITCH.
