Could Albion have had a penalty?

Was it a penalty? Grant Hall and Craig Mackail-Smith

Was it a penalty? Grant Hall and Craig Mackail-Smith

Albion thought they could have had a penalty at Birmingham – seconds before the home team scored.

Craig Mackail-Smith tumbled under pressure from former Seagulls defender Grant Hall.

But play was waved on and the resulting counter-raid led to Wes Thomas heading the only goal.

There were only muted appeals at the time of the incident.

Initial reaction from the media area in the main stand is that it WASN'T a spot kick.

Albion reviewed video footage of the clash after the match and felt Hall should have been penalised.

Either way, Hyypia did allow the incident to colour his judgement of his side's performance

Who cares, it wasn't given. Move on. Get some quality in for the team, that's all that is relevant!

When CMS is not in control of the ball when it's around him he's on the floor sharpish. I don't like to see that in any circumstances. Sort yer life out Craigy.

As a team I think Brighton are more honest than most. WIth Hypia as manager that is unlikely to change. Worth noting that during the world cup a study of previous competitions proved a direct correlation between cheating and success.
I think we all know what side of the fence Gus sat on this. Should we take the moral high ground, and remain nice little Brighton or chase success. Croft's challenge last week wasn't the best but he was sent off because their player pretended the challenge had hurt him when it clearly hadn't. How often do we see similar and sometimes worse challenges by opposition players go unpunished because our players don't over react, surround the referee or have a manager shouting at the 4th official. This is clearly one area where we are not premiership ready.

Just back from the game, He didn't dive. Hall did make contact in the box with CMS but it didn't convince the ref.

What a ridiculous article - I notice it refers to "could have" rather than "should have". Of course it could have - anything it is possible. Unfortunately it wasn't - just another occasion where CMS goes to ground because of his inability to control a moving ball. Sadly it always seems to be his default position. Always loved CMS for his effort but his lack of technical ability gets more pronounced every time I see him. Real clutching at straws if this non incident requires its own article.
