Albion have completed the signing of Northern Ireland international Paddy McCourt.

The former Barnsley midfielder is on the bench at Leeds tonight after agreeing a one-year deal.

McCourt, 30, passed a medical at St George's Park yesterday following a trial period.

Manager Sami Hyypia said: "We have seen enough of Paddy in the last week or so to know that he is a player who has quality going forward.

"He is the type of player who can pick a pass and create a chance.

"Paddy is a player who sees the right passes, at the right time, and I hope he can help us in terms of creativity going forward and to help make some chances for us.

"He knows the Championship, having spent last season at this level with Barnsley, so he knows what to expect from this league - and he also brings additional experience to the squad."

Good signing IMO. Does make me wonder whether one or two midfielders might go out on loan. With Tex, Crofts, Stevens (when fit), Lua Lua, JFC, Holla,, Agustien, Ince, and Toko and maybe someone else I my have forgotten, surely 1 or 2 will have to move on or be loaned out. Just hope the club are still pushing for a marquee striker or 2 and a left back. Still positive news at last.

Heads up The Argus - you may want to put this post in the Albion category, otherwise most will miss it.

Welcome Paddy! Another signing to help pad out our squad :)

No doubt the miserable brigade will still be moaning, but transfer window is open and as promised we are starting to see signings.

People moan even when we get signings it seems however from the Holla post - we have Stephens injured , Marchinjured and Crofts unable to play - how is a bit of cover a bad news?!!!

I can't see how anyone can be moaning until the window is closed.
More signings definitely en route. Have a little faith!!

Also, whilst taking the time to post: how people with no knowledge what so ever of the inner workings of Brighton feel happy to slander Burke, Barber, Bloom etc. is beyond me. Have a little faith in the guy who has taken us to where we are now. I swear half of you lot don't have a memory of where we have been and who has got us out of it. If he is happy with his staff then good enough for me.

Up the Albion!

Good point pablobrowno about having another player who can run at defences.
We seemed to be looking at recruiting a wide player eg Lingard even before Buckley left, so I am half expecting us to go for 2 wingers.
Then of course we need a LB and at least one quality goal scorer - ideally 2 more strikers would complete the squad nicely.

I'm not a "supporter" of Burke as such, nor do I claim or think he's "wonderful". I just don't see how I or anyone else can have any real opinion when we know nothing of the inner workings.

All we can go off is what we get told, and Bloom says he is very happy with Burke. People talk of Burke signings, and I often hear of Rodriguez as a classic Burke signing that didn't work out. Always find this amusing as I seem to remember an interview with Bloom saying Rodriguez was put forward as a suggestion for signing by Oscar Garcia.

Sorry for the moan, but I don't understand how fans still don't understand the transfer system at our club. It has been explained so many times: names are put forwards by manager & scouts etc., agreed on, then they try and sign within a given budget. I can't see how else people would want it to work, other than spending money we don't have. Over and over, great signings get attributed to the manager, then if something goes wrong it's another Burke signing.

Anyway, last moan from me. I sound almost as bad as the miserable brigade / burke bashers. Seagulls 1-0 up, new signing Holla playing well, left back apparently en route - things are looking up!!! :D

Up the Albion![/p]
It`s amazing how supporters of Burke ,enjoy TELLING the rest of us how wonderful and oh so right they think they are ,even with all the facts proving the contrary .[/p]
:D pandaking

If we get a centre forward and maybe a left back have good squad then
must have few million for a good striker or are we banking all the money
trouble is with so little time left no one wants to sell their top players in case cant replace them

Looks good, but why are we buying so many midfielders. Surely we must be planning to ship one or two out?
